Man leaps to his death after trying to elude police arrest
A man died, while another was injured after they jumped out of the window from the fourth floor of a building to escape the police, who caught them while engaged in a pot session in Caloocan City Thursday night.
Police identified the fatality as a certain "Albert," and the injured as a certain "Dudoy."
Arrested were their cohorts Jennifer Dizon, 29, jobless; Michael Meneses, 38, tricycle driver; both residents in Caloocan City; and a 15-year-old boy identified as "Voltaire."
At about 6:30 p.m., elements of the Caloocan City Police Station Intelligence Branch (CCPS-SIB)-North conducted an investigation after receiving a tip that there were "suspicious" people at a building in Caloocan City.
According to a report, the operatives were at the fourth floor of the building when they saw two men going inside room 407.
They chased the suspects and allegedly saw the other suspects engaged in a pot session.
When they saw the police, Albert and Dudoy reportedly jumped out of the window to avoid arrest, leaving Albert dead and Dudoy injured.
Dudoy was brought to the Dr. Jose Rodriguez Memorial Hospital for medical treatment.
Meanwhile, Albert's body was brought to Jade Funeral Homes for autopsy examination.
Five sachets of suspected shabu and assorted drug paraphernalia were retrieved from the scene.
These were turned over to the CCPS Station Drug Enforcement Unit for disposition.
Voltaire was brought to the City Social Welfare and Development Office for intervention.
The arrested suspects, who are now under police custody, will be facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Minka Tiangco)
14 fall in Camanava drug ops
A total of 14 drug suspects were arrested in a series of anti-illegal drugs operations around Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, and Valenzuela (Camanava) on Thursday and Friday.
Jayson Dela Cruz, 30, pedicab driver; and Leonardo Macali, 52, fisherman; were arrested by elements of the Navotas City Police Station Drug Enforcement Unit (NCPS-SDEU) after they were caught with two sachets of suspected shabu in Navotas City at about 6:45 p.m. Thursday.
At about 7:50 p.m., elements of the Caloocan City Police Station Special Operations Unit (CCPS-SOU) collared Arnold Bucao, 53, during their surveillance operation in Caloocan City after they caught him handing a sachet of suspected shabu to a certain "Bukol" who evaded arrest.
In Valenzuela City, three more drug suspects, including a student, were nabbed in a drug sting at about 9 p.m.
Arrested were Jade Alfred Parungao, 22, tattoo artist; Ma. Angela Casagnap, 19, student; and Jomar Valdenor, 42.
According to a report, Parungao sold a sachet of dried marijuana leaves worth P100 to a poseur buyer.
Police retrieved three sachets of suspected marijuana, the buy-bust money, and P50 in cash from Parungao, and a sachet of suspected marijuana from Valdenor.
Casagnap's phone, which contained messages with a suspected drug dealer, was also confiscated.
Two other alleged drug personalities were arrested in a buy-bust operation in Navotas at about 10:20 p.m.
Police identified the suspects as Joselito Robles, 38; and Abelardo Inocencio, 45; both fishermen. Inocencio was reportedly under the police's drug watch list.
Investigation showed that the suspects were nabbed after they sold a sachet of suspected shabu worth P300 to a poseur buyer.
Three sachets of suspected shabu and the marked money were retrieved from the suspects.
On Friday midnight, Joma Santos, 30, a suspected drug pusher included in the police's drug watch list was nabbed by the Northern Police District Drug Enforcement Unit (NPD-DEU) in a sting operation in Caloocan City. Two sachets of suspected shabu and the P200 marked money were retrieved from his possession.
Meanwhile, three suspects namely John Christian Lauritzen, 22; Ferdinand Ventures, 47; both tricycle drivers; and Marlon Delos Cielos, 39; who were reportedly engaged in a pot session were also arrested by elements of the CCPS Police Community Precinct-5 in Caloocan.
At about 1 a.m., joint elements of the Malabon City Police Station (MCPS) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Camanava arrested Marla Emmle Panotes, 39, laborer, listed as a drug pusher in the police's drug watch list; and Rose Marie Cerbito, 19, housekeeper; after they sold a sachet of suspected shabu worth P200 to a poseur buyer at Barangay Longos, Malabon.
Fourteen sachets of suspected shabu were seized from the two suspects.
The recovered pieces of evidence were brought to the NPD Crime Laboratory Office in Caloocan City for laboratory examination.
The arrested suspects will be facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Minka Tiangco)
Cop shot dead in Taguig
A police officer was shot dead by a still unidentified gunman after he was invited to attend a wake on Thursday night in Taguig City.
The victim was identified by police as Patrolman Ralph Aquino, 31, assigned at the Police Community Precinct 8 of the Taguig City Police.
In the report submitted to the Southern Police District, the incident occurred at around 10 in the evening along Paso Street, Old Cemetery, Barangay Bagumbayan, Taguig City.
Police said that Aquino was fetched by a certain "Toto" from the residence of a certain "Irene" to attend a wake.
While at the street, investigators said that the police officer was shot by a still unidentified suspect causing his immediate death.
Police are still conducting follow-up investigation to determine the motive behind the killing. (Dhel Nazario)
