2 airport cops arrested
Police have arrested two rookie airport security personnel for allegedly extorting money from drivers picking up passengers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2.
Senior Supt. Chiquito Malayo, head of the Counter-Intelligence Task Force (CITF), said the operation stemmed from a text message they received about the illegal activities of the two suspects. He identified the two as Airport Police Officer 1 Pablo Atayde Jr. and Airport Police Officer 1 Danilo Levite Jr. The two are not members of the PNP. “They were arrested after receiving the marked money given by our CITF operative who posed as a driver,” said Malayo.
He said the operation occurred at around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the NAIA Terminal 2. Criminal charges were already filed against the suspects.
The CITF was created in February last year to run after erring policemen following the controversial kidnap-slay of South Korean Jee Ick Joo. Since then almost 100 people have already been arrested, most of them policemen and cases involving extortion. (Aaron Recuenco)
Shot dead while doing laundry
A 50-year-old mother doing her laundry with her son was shot dead in front of their house by still unidentified men in Quezon City early Thursday.
Investigators of the Quezon City Police District identified the fatality as Rosanna Crisostomo, 50, a resident of Barangay Batasan Hills, Quezon City.
According to Crisostomo's son, Renuel Miranda, he and his mother were washing their clothes outside their house along Freedom Park Extension past 2 a.m. Minutes after, Miranda saw a white Mitsubishi L300 van without a plate number passed by them.
When the vehicle reached the end of the road, it maneuvered and stopped in front of them.
An armed man on the passenger seat suddenly opened the vehicle's door and repeatedly shot Crisostomo until she fell on the ground. Another man armed with a gun at the back seat opened the car's window and shot Crisostomo again.
The suspects immediately escaped the scene while Miranda rushed her mother to East Avenue Medical Center where he was declared dead on arrival due to multiple gunshot wounds on his body.
Police were able to recover five empty shells at the crime scene. Further investigation is underway to identify and arrest the gunmen. (Alexandria San Juan)
