MANILA, Philippines — Police officials commended the officers and men of the Cavite Police Provincial Office (CPPO) for the series of anti-crime accomplishments it made during the week.

Chief Supt. Samuel D. Pagdilao Jr., Region 4-A police director, commended the CPPO for solving two high-profile crime cases in just two days and the weekend arrest of eight suspected carnappers and hijackers in Dasmariñas, Cavite.

In a press conference at Camp General Pantaleon Garcia in Imus, Pagdilao and Senior Supt. Danilo L. Maligalig, PPO director, announced the list of arrested suspects who were reportedly involved in three crime incidents during the week.

Topping the list was the arrest of eight alleged members of the Onad Group led by Ronald Santiago following a shootout with a joint team of Cavite Highway Patrol Team (CHPT), Batangas, Bataan and Pasay police at their hideout in Paliparan III, Dasmariñas, Cavite, last Thursday night.

Chief Insp. Joel B. Jucutan, CHPT chief, said that the eight suspects were involved in carnapping, hijacking and other robbery incidents in Metro Manila, Region 3 and Region 4-A.

The group was also allegedly involved in the hijacking of a Philippine Postal Corp. (Philpost) van in San Pedro Laguna, two Fridays ago. Two occupants were found dumped in Silang, Cavite, and the vehicle abandoned in Imus town on the same day.

Second was the surrender of Cesar Catipon, who reportedly raped and beheaded a young woman at a sugar plantation in Magallanes, Cavite, last Monday night.

The surrender came only a day after the lifeless and naked body of 19-year-old Maryjane de la Vega was found in a grassy lot in the area last Tuesday.

The third was the arrest of four alleged riding-in-tandem suspects who were reportedly involved in convenience store holdups in Bacoor and other areas of the province.
