Hotel wins international award

ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PNA) — One of the finest hotels in Iloilo City won a global award given in Spain recently. The Grand Dame Hotel located at the corner of Rizal-Huervana Streets in La Paz district received the “Trofeo International De Hosteleria” during the 36th International Awards for Tourist, Hotel and Catering Industry held at the Hotel Melia Castilla in Madrid, Spain last January 18-20, 2011.

Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog said the citation is another manifestation of the city’s growing reputation as an ideal tourism and convention destination with the presence of excellent hotel amenities here.

Group moves to protect women, kids
CEBU CITY — Members of the Men Oppose to Violence against Women Everywhere (MOVE), a newly organized group under the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Field Office-7, recently distributed hundreds of stickers and information materials to wage war against the continuing problem on violence among women and children.

Bacolod warned about fake notes
BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occ. — Three people were arrested Friday by local cops for violating Article 168 of the Revised Penal Code, or the illegal possession and use of fake treasury or bank notes and/or instruments thereof.

Police Officer-In-Charge (OIC) Senior Superintendent Ricardo Dela Paz, along with operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of Bacolod City/Negros Occidental and Central Bank agents nabbed Leonita Gustilo, 56 and married; and Allan Gustilo Orce, 41, married, both residents of Purok Sigay, Purok Sigay, Magsungay in Barangay Singcang Airport and Ruel Dailig, 36, single, of Barangay 22, this city.

36,600 dogs in Antique vaccinated
SAN JOSE, Antique — The Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (PROVET) has vaccinated a total of 36,600 dogs with anti-rabies vaccines in 2010. Dorivic Juada, PROVET Information Officer said the accomplishment was related to the implementation of the “Rabies-Free Visayas Islands Project” of the World Health Organization through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Western Visayas, said Juada, is a priority area for being consistent highly endemic for human and canine rabies with the highest number of animal bite patients. (Mars W. Mosqueda, Jr.)

62 market stalls tagged abandoned
BACOLOD CITY – Some 62 market stalls in this city’s Libertad Public Market have been identified by the city government’s Local Market Committee as abandoned.

Thus, Bacolod City Administrator, Dr. Rogelio Balo, who is concurrent chair of aforementioned committee, has sent a letter to the registered market vendors under whose names the stalls have been registered to operate the stalls otherwise these will be bid out to other interested parties.
