Climate change center launched

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol (PIA) – Governor Edgar M. Chatto led Tuesday the launching of the Regional Center for Information & Research on Climate Change during the opening of the 3-day Climate Change Forum at the Bohol Island State University (BISU) in Tagbilaran City.

In the event, Chatto called on Boholanos to sustain the efforts towards bracing for the impact of climate change. The Climate Change Forum also gathered experts from the National Aeronautics & Space Administration (NASA).

Iloilo City is calamity-ready
ILOILO CITY (PNA) – Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has given assurances about the readiness of Ilonggos in this city in case any calamity occurs.

Mabilog echoed the sentiment of the Crisis Management Committee (CMC) and volunteers serving at the forefront in times of disasters after meeting with them last Monday.

“After typhoon Frank, there was a series of workshops and seminars of stakeholders conducted to ensure that we are prepared,” the mayor said.

He added that the city’s identified 15-flood prone barangays have already put in place their evacuation plans even as the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) also assured that it has enough stocks to sustain possible evacuees.

Cop probers on training
BACOLOD CITY – Some 30 police investigators from various police stations in Region 6 have joined a 30-day training on crime investigation.

Said training is aimed at providing the police personnel the ability and skills in handling investigation work.

Handled by the Regional Investigation and Detection Management division, the training is taking place after Police Director General Raul M. Bacalzo, Chief, Philippine National Police, made the observation that eight of 10 police investigators have no formal training on the job. (Edith B. Colmo)

Schools urged to prepare for N.A.T.
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PNA) – Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog has called on all school officials here to prepare their students for the National Achievement Test (NAT) as early as this month.

Administered by the Department of Education (DepEd), the annual examination is given every March to evaluate the competency of public and private school students.

“I want our schools to be prepared early so that we can have much better results this year,” Mabilog said.

The Division of Iloilo City Schools has consistently been posting high NAT results. ndicates low mastery.

Garcia in the dark about road project
CEBU CITY (PNA) – Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia has said the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is hesitant to allow Capitol to implement the P50-million road right of way project for the Cebu North Coastal Road project.

She said during the last days of then President Gloria Arroyo, Capitol signed an agreement with the DPWH for the project to be devolved to the province.

But Garcia said she’s “still in the dark” until now on the project that would widen to four lanes the coastal road’s link from Consolacion to Liloan.
