Hike in hospital's income desired
CEBU CITY, Cebu (PNA) – The newly-installed Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) wants to double this year the P71.4 million the city-run hospital earned from its operations last year.
In its revenue report for billed services, CCMC said it earned P34.4 million from cash receipts and has P36.9 million in receivables.
Newly-installed CCMC chief Eduardo Sedoripa said he wants the earnings of the city-owned hospital to increase by a hundred percent.
He said this can be achieved by improving the services and units of the hospital that are revenue generating.
”For example, instead of sending patients outside for laboratories, we will improve our facilities in order to accommodate the needs of our patients.
Good governance pushed
SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) - Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Director General Atty. Jose A. Fabia urged Information Officers (IOs) to become advocates of good governance and be responsive to the needs of the people.
He emphasized this during the PIA Strategic Planning Workshop Visayas Cluster attended by PIA Provincial Managers and Regional Directors of Regions 6, 7 and 8 recently held in Iloilo City.
In discussing PIA’s policy directions and thrust, Fabia urged government information officers not to only act as information disseminators but also advocates of programs aimed at improving people’s lives.
Cebu comes to Camotes' aid
CEBU CITY, Cebu (PNA) – The Cebu provincial government has decided to lend money to a power cooperative to prevent a blackout in Camotes Islands situated in the northern part of the Cebu mainland.
Governor Gwndolyn Garcia, who met with officials of the National Power Corp. (Napocor), Camotes Electric Cooperative (Celco) and the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), said the Capitol can lend money to Celco with minimal interest so that the distribution utility can buy fuel it needed to operate its power generation plant.
City moves vs. lawlessness
BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occ. – The Bacolod City Council has approved a resolution authored by Councilor Em Ang urging the Bacolod City Police to stop the proliferation of improvised or home-made firearms and intensify the confiscation and/or elimination of the same in the city as well as impose penalties and sanctions against those caught carrying or using such firearms.
Ang authored the resolution as a reaction to the alarming increase in the proliferation of said firearms, particularly those which are known in the Ilonggo vernacular as “sulpak,” commonly used by holduppers and other criminal elements. (Edith B. Colmo)
Disaster brigade activated
MANDAUE CITY, Cebu (PNA) – Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes has activated the City Disaster Brigade and ordered the training of 135 barangay "tanods" (watchmen) to respond to calamities.
“The brigade will be composed of city employees and national agencies’ personnel assigned in Mandaue.
They will be tasked to undertake pre-disaster, during disaster and post-disaster activities,” Cortes informed department heads.
In a meeting with the City Disaster Coordinating Council, the mayor divided the city into five clusters: north cluster, northeast cluster, west cluster, southeast cluster, and south cluster.
