Bayanihan tapped for environment
ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) – A “bayanihan” effort towards reforestation and environmental protection in Capiz is being pushed by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) here.
Provincial head Dionisio Molina of DENR Capiz said the agency will be implemented by the national greening program this year to involve various sectors here.
Molina also said the DENR here will enter into a memorandum of agreement with the academe, church, civic and non-government organizations as well as national and local government units for said initiative.
Red Cross asks for support
PROVINCE OF SIQUIJOR (PIA)--The Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC)-Siquijor Chapter recently appealed to the local government units and private sector here to support the blood donation program of the office.
PNRC-Siquijor Administrator Rowena L. Maputi said to ensure sufficiency of blood supply to be able to respond to emergencies, the yearly collection target must be one percent of the total population.
Siquijor province’s present population is more than 87,000.She said in 2010, only 170 bags or 19 percent of targeted 870 bags was reached.
Misencounter in Negros
BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental – Residents from the hinterlands of Toboso and Calatrava in Southern Negros Occidental reported seeing several fallen New People’s Army (NPA) rebels being carried away by their comrades after a misencounter occurred at 11:00 pm recently.
According to Col. Jonas Sumagaysay, Commanding Officer of the Philippine Army’s 303rd Infantry Brigade, the misencounter between two rebel groups took place in the hinterlands between Toboso and Calatrava in Southern Negros Occidental.

Flood victims relocated
BORONGAN, Eastern Samar (PIA) — Some 30 of 52 families in Borongan who were affected by floodwaters recently have finally been relocated according to Borongan Social Welfare and Development Officer Thelma Banal in an interview.
Banal said the Borongan local government unit, through Mayor Ma. Fe Abunda, gave nipa shingles, nails and other construction materials for the victims.
Some 52 families were being housed at the Barangay Bato Gymnasium for some weeks as their houses, located in the river banks were swept out to sea at the height of the floods in Eastern Samar.
Army is intact despite issues
ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) – The Philippine Army (PA) maintains its commitment to serve the country and the people despite issues of graft and corruption in the military.
This was according to 61st Infantry Battalion Commanding Officer and Information Officer Joselito Dalida who stressed that the Philippine Army here is still intact despite issues on alleged anomalies haunting the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
He also said that whatever will be the result of the investigation to be continued in Congress, they in the Army will continue to be of service to the Filipino people.
