Group vows to fight crime

CEBU CITY – Party-List group Alliance for Nationalism and Democracy (Anad) vowed to wage a continuous campaign against crime and corruption in government in addition to its commitment to intensify its drive against communist rebels.

Rep. Jun Alcover of the anti-Communist group said his group is proposing an amendment of the Anti-Terrorism Law where, he said, Government should avoid conducting peace talks with rebels especially the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA). (Mars W. Mosqueda, Jr.)

Capiz public safety plan finalized
ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) – Capiz province is finalizing its 2011 and Members of Capiz’s Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) were recently called to a workshop by Gov. Victor Tanco to formulate a public safety plan for the province and the Council is now finalizing its 2011 Integrated Area Community Public Safety Plan (IACPSP).

Interior and Local Government Provincial Director Helen Mestidio said their office, which serves as PPOC secretariat is consolidating outputs of the workshop.

4Ps to boost Samar economy
CATARMAN, Northern Samar (PIA) – Northern Samar Governor Paul R. Daza is expecting funds given to the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries here to help pump prime his province’s economy.

In a recent dialogue with local media, Daza said such funds, about R200 million from the national government which will go to Northern Samar beneficiaries, will “surely stimulate our economy as this is a big bulk of money given to our poor families.”

Said program is being expanded to 10 local towns this year, with 20,353 more families expected to benefit from it.

Filipina, Norwegian charged
CEBU CITY, Cebu – Police here last Tuesday filed charges of kidnapping with homicide against a Norwegian engineer and his Filipina girlfriend over the death of a six-year-old girl Ellah Joy Pique from the town of Minglanilla, whose body was found in Barili.

Charges were filed against Sven Erik Berger, 49, a resident of Oslo, Norway and Karen Castro Esdrelon, 24, from Barangay 6, Tuburan, Cebu at the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.

Assistant Prosecutor Marvin de la Peña ordered the two suspects to file their counter-affidavit within a week. The two suspects, said that they will fight to prove their innocence.
