2 projects benefit children

LAGAWE, Ifugao — Hundreds of malnourished children from the different municipalities here were aided with the stepped-up health efforts of the provincial government to improve the health conditions of kids in the grassroots level so that they will become productive citizens of their respective places.

Provincial Planning Development Coordinator, Engineer Carmelita Buyuccan (PPDC) said that about 443 malnourished children are beneficiaries of the “Adopt a Malnourished Child" and "Barya mo para sa Kalusugan ko" projects, two interventions crafted by the local government to significantly reduce malnourished incidents in the far-flung communities of the country. Building owners plant trees
BAGUIO CITY — With the serious negative effects of climate change taking its toll as triggered by rapid urbanization, the city council here approved an ordinance requiring new building owners to plant various tree species in identified critical areas prior to the issuance of their occupancy permit to show their commitment in supporting the relentless effort to regreen the deteriorating forests and watersheds.

The local legislative body passed the ordinance in the light of snowballing clamor among local residents and visitors for the city government and other stakeholders to restore its clean and vibrant forests. (Dexter See)

Bolinao dominates athletics
LINGAYEN — Again Bolinao contingency garnered the Hall of Fame award as the consistent champion for five years during the awarding ceremonies of the 5th Pangasinan I Division Olympic Games.

The Bolinao athletes topped in almost all of the sports events during the four-day schools division Olympics for elementary and high school students of Pangasinan I at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center here from February 8 to 11.

Tito Caampued, sports official of the Bolinao delegation has been working hard and said their team has been champion of the Pangasinan I Olympic Games since 2007. (Liezle Basa Inigo)

Solar power in Kalinga
TABUK, Kalinga — About 150 households in the province are targeted to be energized this year through solar energy which is an environmentally-friendly and descent source of electricity being introduced in the countryside as part of the renewable energy program of the government.

Engr. Sammy Bayangan of the Office of the Congressman informed that Congressman Manuel Agyao worked out with the Department of Energy (DoE) for the lighting of 150 households in the province which will serve as the initial wave of introducing the renewable source of energy. (Dexter See)

D.P.W.H. adopts bioengineering
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) here decided to adopt the so-called bioengineering because it seems that the various measures used in the said endeavor are the answers the agency has been searching for to guarantee sustainable development, especially among roads and bridges which are considered as vital infrastructure.

Engr. Edilberto Carabbacan, DPWH-CAR regional director, revealed the agency had been successful in many areas in using environmentally-friendly materials. (Dexter See)
