Thirty-seven Chinese nationals engaged in retail business have been arrested in Paranaque City, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Wednesday, June 5.
BI Spokesperson Dana Krizia Sandoval explained the 37 Chinese “violated the conditions of their stay.”
“If working in the Philippines dapat naka 9(g) working visa (they should have the 9(g) working visa),” Sandoval explained.
The BI said they were arrested during an operation conducted by the bureau's Intelligence Division inside the Multinational Village in Paranaque City last Tuesday, June 4.
They were found to be illegally engaged in food retail, and operation of groceries and restaurants in Paranaque City.
"The Bureau of Immigration will not tolerate illegal work practices and will continue to take necessary actions against those who violate our laws,” declared BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco in a statement.
"We received credible information about foreign nationals engaging in illegal retail activities, and our team acted swiftly to address these violations," Tansingco said.
"This operation is part of our ongoing efforts to uphold the integrity of our immigration laws and protect local businesses from unfair competition,” he added.
