MANILA, Philippines – An agent for legendary rock act Aerosmith as well as its drummer, Joey Kramer, dispelled rumors of a Manila concert this April.

In his statement published Feb. 24 on local music website At The Womb.com, Dan Weiner, Aerosmith's agent, said:

“There is absolutely no truth to advertisements or rumors that have been appearing lately that Aerosmith will be playing in Manila during this year. We are all very concerned and upset that Aerosmith’s fans are being misled and hope and trust that no one has bought worthless tickets for events that do not exist.”

Kramer, meanwhile, answered queries from fans eager for confirmation straight from the band.

“absolutely untrue !” he tweeted Feb. 18 to one Filipino netizen who asked about the Manila concert.

He also told another follower that the concert buzz is a “hoax,” as the band “was nvr scheduled there we r off the road wrking on new record.”

Rumors that Aerosmith, dubbed as “America’s Greatest Rock and Roll Band,” will play in Manila mushroomed several weeks back. It was initially said to happen on March 19 but was pushed back to April 2. Promotion for the concert looked to have already begun as well, as concert posters, information on ticket prices and even the venue (SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds) were already announced.

This is not to say that the band will not go on tour this year. Weiner told Billboard in January that Aerosmith will hold shows in South America and Japan this 2011.

"We are pleased to announce that Aerosmith has confirmed a tour of South America and Japan during 2011. Within the near future we will announce the cities and dates in each territory, and when tickets will be available for sale,” he said.

Aerosmith has relished longevity in the music industry since the band formed in the 70s. They have sold more than 150 million albums worldwide, making them one of the biggest-selling American rock bands in history. In 2001, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Its front man, Steven Tyler, currently sits as one of the judges for the 10th season of “American Idol,” and is seen as the viewer’s newest favorite, with his rock star swagger, unpretentious hilarity, and downright kookiness.

Tyler’s stint on “Idol” also seems to be doing some good both for the show and his band. His bleep-inducing comments and flirtatious innuendos to the female contestants have landed the show on the headlines.

Fox News, meanwhile, reported earlier this month that Aerosmith had resurrected in the charts. Their ballad, “I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing,” which was the theme of the film “Armageddon,” charted from out of the blue to number 22 on iTunes.  Two versions of another one of their hits, “Dream On,” had also charted at number 77 and 115, respectively.

More, Nielsen SoundScan saw a massive jump in the sales of their compilation albums. “Big Hits” skyrocketed by 260 percent, while other collections increased sales of over 130 percent, added the Fox News report.
