Baguio's cleanest barangays given recognition
BAGUIO CITY — The city government and the Alay sa Kalinisan, the city’s partner in its clean and green campaign, named the city’s cleanest and dirtiest barangays in order to empower the 128 barangays to be actively involved in regaining its image as the cleanest and greenest highly urbanized city.
The search for the city’s cleanest and greenest barangays as well as the dirtiest ones has been a tradition of the Alay sa Kalinisan to encourage local residents and visitors to bring back the city’s clean and green title.
The identified cleanest barangays in the city include SLU-SVP, Middle Quezon Hill, PMA Fort del Pilar, Scout Barrio, Greenwater, Sto. Tomas proper, South Drive, Quezon Hill proper, West Bayan Park and Dominican-Mirador. (Dexter A. See)
Veterans burial assistance
SAN FERNANDO CITY, Pampanga — A Central Luzon lawmaker on Tuesday has approved on third and final reading a measure increasing the burial assistance for veterans from P10,000 to P20,000.
Bataan 1st district Rep. Herminia Roman, Chairperson of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs and Welfare and author of the bill, told Manila Bulletin that the measure will be a great help for the dependents of Filipino veterans.
The lady representative disclosed that the present burial assistance of P10,000 is not enough to help the deceased veterans and their families. (Franco A. Regala)
Groundwater assessment
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — The Mines and Geo-Sciences Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural resources will conduct a groundwater resources assessment in Pampanga for the whole month of March this year in order to avert water contamination and depletion in the province.
Aniano Torres, a geologist who heads the nine-man team from the MGB Central Office, disclosed that the MGB has embarked on implementing the “Groundwater Resources Assessment Project” to address the issues confronting many regions in the country. (Mark Anthony N. Manuel)
Clark expansion
CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga — A Japanese semi-conductor firm inside this freeport zone has formally opened its P800-million expansion project which is projected to double the current output of electronic products and components at the freeport, the Clark Development Corporation here reported.
CDC said the said project will boost this freeport’s hold in semi-conductor and touch panel industry, and is expected to employ more Filipino workers. (Mark Anthony N. Manuel)
Cancer awareness
TAYTAY, RIZAL — Policewomen, female public school teachers and women residents living near the headquarters of the Rizal Police Provincial Office (PPO) in Hilltop, here are encouraged to attend a free seminar on breast and cervical cancer awareness next week.
This came as the Officers Lady’s Club (OLC) of the Rizal PPO in coordination with the Rizal PPO led by Senior Supt. Manuel Cesar Prieto is sponsoring a seminar on Breast and Cervical Cancer Awareness on March 14 as part of the various activities of the group for the Women’s Month.
The OLC is presently headed by Mrs. Fe Daaca, wife of PPO Deputy Director, Supt. Henry Daaca. (Nel B. Andrade)
