Mild quake hits Southern Luzon
SINAIT, Ilocos Sur, Philippines– At least two successive tectonic mild quakes hit some areas in southern Luzon and eastern Visayas last Sunday, but there was no damage reported, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) satellite office based here.
Local Phivolcs researcher Julius Galdiano said the latest quake on Sunday with magnitude 2.8 happened at 6:09 p.m. with its epicenter traced at 60 kilometers northwest of Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro, at a depth of 97 kilometers.
Galdiano said the other mild quake also on Sunday was magnitude 3.2 that occurred at 7:12 a.m. with its epicenter located at 46 kilometers southeast of Cataraman, Northern Samar. (Freddie Lazaro)
Federation backs S.K. continuation
BAGAC, Bataan – After consulting with their various provincial youth leaders, Assistant Secretary Louise Gabriel “Gabz” del Rosario, national president of the Sangguniang Kabataan National Federation (SKNF), expressed strong opposition on the reported plans by several lawmakers in Congress to abolish the youth organization.
“As you well aware, there have been proposals to abolish the Sangguniang Kabataan based on various reasons, one of which is the thought that the Sangguniang Kabataan has grown irrelevant over the years. This, we would like to disprove,” said Del Rosario. (Mar Supnad)
Marcos family scouts for lot
LAOAG CITY – The family of the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos plans to buy a lot in Ilocos Norte for the permanent resting place of the former strongman that temporarily lay at the Marcos Mausoleum in his residence in Batac City.
Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos said there’s no problem on her family if the present administration will refrain from allowing the burial of the cadaver of the late President Marcos at the “Libingan ng mga Bayani.” (Freddie Lazaro)
Local L.T.O aids Bataan effort
PILAR, Bataan – A top official of the Land transportation Office (LTO) has vowed to always support Bataan’s economic development, saying they always adhere to the principle that they are part of the solution and not the problem.
Emmanuel “Bong” Da Jose, district head of the LTO in Bataan, made the statement during the recent Peace and Order Council meeting held in Balanga City that was attended by Bataan Gov.
Tet Garcia, Bataan police director Sr. Supt. Arnold D. Gunnacao, and almost all heads of various national and local agencies in the province. (Mar Supnad)
Kalinga supports geothermal plant
TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The provincial government of Kalinga recently declared its all-out support for the on-going exploration activities leading to the establishment of an 80-megawatt geothermal project by Chevron Kalinga Ltd. in the towns of Pasil, Lubuagan, and Tingalayan in order to help spur economic development in the three remote towns of the province.
This developed after the provincial board passed a resolution supporting the multi-billion-peso project in recognition of its potential contribution to the development of the province in the future so that lives of people living in the remote areas will significantly improve for the better.
