All's well between sweethearts Geoff and Carla

MANILA, Philippines - All is well between Geoff Eigenmann and Carla Abellana who recently celebrated their sixth month-sary three weeks ago.

Recently, the couple’s relationship hit a snag when allegedly, Carla’s father, Rey, said in an interview that he hasn’t given his stamp of approval on Geoff.

The controversy was unexpected and threw them off track, Geoff said. He spoke to Carla’s father who clarified the issue. Rey said he was misquoted and it was only a misunderstanding.

The couple is busy working together in the top-rating GMA fantaserye “Magic Palayok.” Mid-last year they had “Basahang Ginto” and “SRO Presents,” an afternoon program where they worked together with Carla’s dad and his mother, veteran actress and director Gina Alajar; and “The Last Prince.”

Since the two young actors see each other often Geoff said they do a lot of things together – including facials and other skincare treatments. Carla is an endorser of Beverly Hills6750; which also takes care of Geoff’s “beauty” requirements. The multi-specialty aesthetic institute is set to open a branch in Timog Ave., Quezon City next month.

Carla watches over Geoff including what he eats. He said he gets a lot of motivation to go to the gym from her.

Being born to a clan of talented actors is daunting. Geoff and his cousins said they have big shoes to fill in, but he believes that the third generation Eigenmanns have made their own mark and have successfully escaped their parents’ shadows.

The young actor hopes to be given more challenging assignments in the future so he is saying goodbye to teeny-bopper roles. Geoff wants to get assigned more daring roles, although he admitted that he is more inclined to do TV dramas.

Will their delicious on and off screen pairing have its happy ending? Asked if he would marry Carla, Geoff said yes. But right now he said they are taking it one day at a time. The couple hopes to travel around the world.

Another side of ex-Mayor Atienza

We saw another side of former Manila Mayor Lito L. Atienza when he brought us a day after Valentine’s Day to the Home for the Angels in San Andres Bukid, Manila. It turned out that the Home for the Angels Child Caring Foundation, Inc. which he and wife Ma. Evelina I. Atienza founded on Feb. 14, 1996, marked its 15th anniversary and he wanted his friends from the entertainment press to know of the existence of Home for the Angels which is his and his wife’s proactive response to the prevailing challenges brought about by increasing cases of child abuse, exploitation and abortion.

The foundation is duly registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and licensed and accredited by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

“Our vision is to prepare a home and loving family for every child brought to us, having in mind that each person is of absolute value,” the former mayor said. So far, the foundation has served and admitted for case management (adoption and foster care) a total of 344 babies since it was founded 15 years ago, Mayor Atienza proudly stated.

“The infants adopted 14 years ago are now teenagers living with their adoptive families, the toddlers three years ago are now attending Early Childhood Education preparing them for socialization while awaiting for their adoptive parents,” he said.

The Atienzas themselves have adopted a girl from the Home, someone who’ve been giving them much joy and a sense of fulfillment. Many of their babies at the Home have been adopted by qualified families abroad.

The Home has also given crisis intervention/referrals (for pregnancy related and abortion and post abortion counseling) to a total of 4,508 women and teenagers.

But the ultimate goal of the Home, he said, is “to save both mothers and children and continue to defend, protect and support all children born and unborn by catching women with pregnancy related problems early enough.”

The Home operates a 24-hour child care residential care program for infants 0-6 months old. It has a team of registered social workers, health care providers, office personnel, housekeepers, volunteer para-counselors and consultants.
