Former and active government officials, as well as retired police generals, were also stripped of police security detail in a move to maximize police deployment to streets and communities, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Wednesday, Aug 7.
The total number of personnel from the Police Security Protection Group (PSPG) who were called as security details, according to PNP Chief, Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil, is 373—all of them were re-assigned to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).
"The PNP’s decision to rationalize the deployment of our officers is part of our commitment to better serve the people. This is to ensure that our police force is deployed where most needed, enhancing our public order and safety efforts," said Marbil.
"Rationalizing PSPG deployment will help us achieve a better ratio, reduce unnecessary security assignments, and improve support for field operations and critical policing needs," he added.
Among those whose police security details were recalled were 27 former government officials, 17 national and local officials, 16 local residents, seven former congressmen, six mayors, six barangay captains, three bureau heads, one governor, and one undersecretary.
On the other hand, police security details of key officers of private companies, 57 from retired police generals, 14 from resident aliens, and various protectees, were also recalled.
Marbil said the recall order was aimed at optimizing police services nationwide to enhance protection and security for Filipinos.
In addition to the 373 cops recalled, he said a total of 277 “excess” officers from the national headquarters, 43 newly promoted lieutenants, and 103 newly appointed police commissioned officers were similarly reassigned to the NCRPO.
"These officers are now serving local communities, ensuring that police resources are maximized for the broader public," he added.
The PNP released the data amid speculations that the recall of policemen was intended to harass the Vice President following political disagreements with the Marcos administration.
Marbil emphasized that a total of 298 policemen were already recalled two weeks before the same was implemented for 75 police security of Duterte.
