The Philippines has confirmed its participation in the World Expo 2025, which will be held in Osaka, Japan, the Department of Tourism (DOT) said.
DOT Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco said the Philippine pavilion, themed "Nature, Culture, and Community, Woven Together for a Better Future," will showcase the concept of 'Woven' to represent the country's rich diversity at the Expo.
Central to the pavilion's design will be 212 handwoven textiles, symbolizing the diverse heritage and traditions of Philippine communities.
“The Philippine pavilion celebrates our nation’s rich diversity and interconnectedness, drawing inspiration from our indigenous weaving traditions,” Frasco said.
“Indigenous renewable materials would be used for the construction of the Philippine Pavilion that is expected to open in April 2025,” she added.
In collaboration with local governments, private sectors, and communities nationwide, the DOT and Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) are ensuring the pavilion embodies Philippine creativity and cultural diversity.
“At the TPB, community-based tourism is a priority agenda for us, not only to give that unique Philippine experience to every traveler, but also to empower local communities all over the country,” TPB chief operating officer Margarita Nograles said.
Frasco expressed optimism that the Philippine pavilion will not only attract tourists and investments during the Expo but also significantly contribute to the country's economic growth and prosperity.
Looking beyond the Expo, plans are underway to potentially relocate the pavilion to the National Museum, further showcasing Philippine culture and craftsmanship.
