Dipolog fighters reign supreme in Dapitan MMA tilt

CEBU CITY—Mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters from Dipolog City stamped their class in the Kinabayo Festival 2024 Amateur MMA card last Sunday, July 21, at the Dapitan Cultural Center in Dapitan City.

“Spearheaded by City Mayor Seth Frederick “Bullet” P. Jalosjos, this inaugural horse show was a highlight of the festival, honoring our Patron Saint James the Greater. The event celebrated Dapitan’s deep-rooted equestrian heritage, showcasing the strength, resilience, and grace of the city’s horses,” Agolong said. (Calvin D. Cordova)

The card featured nine fights with five fighters coming from Dipolog-based gyms emerging victorious.

Leading the winner’s circle was Dipolog Top Team’s King Montero, who defeated John Fritz Dacullo of the Davao De Oro MMA in the main event.

Atom Vidal of Agila MMA-Dipolog defeated Christian Maza of Manukan MMA, while Fillart Tan Dipolog Top Team prevailed over JR Lacre of Team Lacre MMA-Dipolog.

Bong Sinon of Dipolog Top Team triumphed over John Paul Lacre of Team Lacre MMA while Amay Lacre of Team Lacre beat Blitz Peñaranda of Gym of D Powers.

In the co-main event, Glenn Delos Reyes of Manukan MMA prevailed over Andre Nerad of Gym of the Powers.

Fighters from Dapitan also emerged victorious with Michael Sardaña of Tatlong Lettra MMA winning over Albert Docto of Gym of D Powers and Bryle Osaraga of Cage MMA Team stopping Joven Ruiz Gym of D Powers.

The MMA card was just one of the several sporting events that Dapitan is hosting as part of the two-week-long celebration of the Kinabayo Festival.

“The festivities commenced with the exhilarating aquathlon. Competitors from across the region took part in this challenging event, demonstrating their endurance and agility,” said Apple Marie Agolong, chief of Dapitan’s Tourism Office.

The city also hosted 1st Dapitan Kinabayo Mayor Bullet Horse Show at Punto del Desembarco.
