Willie: Nothing obscene in Jan-Jan’s dancing
MANILA, Philippines -- Beleaguered TV host Willie Revillame insisted, through his lawyer Atty. Leonardo de Vera, and Wil Productions executive Jay Montelibano, that there was nothing obscene or malicious in Jan-Jan’s dancing in “Willing Willie” last March 12, contrary to what is perceived by some quarters and for which Willie’s fans felt their idol was being judged unfairly. They insisted this was no case of child exploitation or child abuse.
At a press conference held last Saturday at Annabel’s Morato which Willie failed to attend due to more pressing and urgent matters, three sets of affidavits were also presented to clear the issue.
These were signed by Jan-Jan’s parents, Joe and Diana Suan, his aunt Jocelyn S. Santiago who accompanied Jan-Jan to “Willing Willie” on March 12, and the boy’s uncle John David Estrada who taught him the “macho dance” in question and which is now being branded as “exploitation of minor.” Estrada also accompanied Jan-Jan to the audition conducted by “Willing Willie” for young talented dancers. There were 3000 who auditioned and Jan-Jan was among the lucky six who were chosen.
Estrada, who said he lives with the Suans, described in his affidavit that they are a fun-loving family who likes to sing and dance in their free time. “When my nephew Jan-Jan and niece, Jillian Suan, see me dancing, sinasabayan na nila ako.”
He added that Jan-Jan also dances in his school and that he also joined the Little Mr. SM at Mall of Asia and he always danced what he danced in “Willing Willie.” Estrada usually tells Jan-Jan to always look serious when dancing and not to smile “kasi seryoso ang sayaw” which the boy always follows, although he became teary-eyed, he said, in “Willing Willie.”
Jocelyn S. Santiago, in her affidavit said “saksi ako kung gaano kagaling sumayaw ang pamangkin ko sa palabas. Nakita ko rin kung gaano kasaya ang mga tao nung sumayaw si Jan-Jan.” After he danced, the boy told her that he cried because “natakot siya sa kapre,” referring to former basketball star Bonel Balingit who’s part of the cast of “Willing Willie.” She also said that Jan-Jan is “iyakin, konting saway lang ay umiiyak na.”
Jan-Jan’s parents, Joe and Diana, said that their son’s talent is really in dancing and in school his teachers and classmates knew him as a good dancer. Because of his talent in dancing he was named Little Mr. SM in 2009. It was the same dance he danced in “Willing Willie” that won him the title.
When Jan-Jan learned that there was an audition for talented kids aged 6 to 11 for “Willing Willie,” he insisted in joining, the parents said. Despite the long line of auditioners and the heat, Jan-Jan persevered.
And when they saw him danced in the show, “tuwang-tuwa kami pati na mga kapitbahay namin at mga kakilala. Bilang mga magulang, proud kami kay Jan-Jan. Hindi namin naisip na naabuso siya o nagamit siya nung sumali siya sa Willing Willie. Sa tingin namin isang grasya na ibinigay ng Diyos ito upang makamit ni Jan-Jan ang kanyang pangarap na sumali sa showbiz.”

I watched the video of Janjan... It was really disturbing, a kid MAcho dancing, and one stupid jerk urging the poor kid to dance more... It was a clear abuse..
If you will review Willie's videos, you will know when he is impressed and when he is just just making fun... And with Janjan, he was not impressed, it was clear in his reactions....
The question of being obscene or malicious is not the issue. It is how you intimidated this boy to do acts against his will. Wether it is done forcefully or by giving incentive as money. Just like an animal . A dog will do acts according to the will of the master by beating him up, or offer food if he obeys. You have made this boy into a dog. You have made your odience into a pack of wild dogs cheering to make one obey your wishes. How pitiful are your dogs.
