Air traffic control software glitch causes flight delays at NAIA
Flights at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) were delayed on Monday morning, May 20, after the the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) encountered software problem in its Air Traffic Management Center.
In a statement, the CAAP said the potential problem it monitored prompted it to control the operations of the flight in order to ensure safety.
"To ensure safety of the flying public, CAAP decided to be conservative and control the operations by providing longer separation of departing flights," the CAAP said in a statement.
But the agency said only departing flights experienced delays due to longer separation intervals.
For its part, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said it is collecting all the data on the issue.
