Education in Antique boosted
SAN JOSE, Antique, Philippines (PIA) — Governor Exequiel B. Javier of Antique and son, Antique lone district representative Paolo S. Javier assured constituents in Caluya town that they will provide P.4 million each to build four classrooms of the University of Antique-Caluya campus.
They also announced during the recent Tatusan Festival that they will continue the subsidy of congressional and provincial scholarships.
For school year 2010-2011, the joint congressional and provincial scholarship program over P17million has been allocated to subsidize educational needs of 3,502 scholars.
9th National Skim Open Contest
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) — All’s set for the 9th National Skimboarding Open Competition on Easter Sunday, April 24 at the Bantay Dagat area in Brgy. Sto. Niño, in the country’s skimboarding capital, Tanuan, Leyte. Both local and foreign skim boarders are expected to join the contest sponsored by the party list An Waray group.
Other sports like Coastal Adventure Race, wall climbing, and Rumba Bugsay will be featured as added attractions. The sports meet will last till April 27. Nightly events like a San Miguel Beer Night and Bikini Open will be featured as well as daily wall climbing contests will be held.
E. Samar Disaster Preparedness
BORONGAN, Eastern Samar (PIA) — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), through a district inspectorate team, is currently inspecting and assessing public buildings and bridges as part of its Disaster Preparedness Program.
The team started in the provincial capital town of Borongan where it inspected public schools and hospitals erected before the issuance of the National Building Code of the Philippines (NBCP) in 1976.
The team will submit its recommendation for repair or rehabilitation or even total demolition if necessary. Buildings inspection will be completed in May 2011.
Kids to be fed for 120 days
SOUTHERN LEYTE (PIA) — The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) briefed local government units directly implementing Government’s supplemental feeding program for day care children in the province.
Municipal accountants, treasurers, and supply officers were advised of the supplemental feeding funds that will go directly into their respective municipal coffers. Some 1,632 day care kids from 18 towns will be fed for 120 days in classrooms in Southern Leyte starting first week of May.
Cebu Pre-School Malnutrition
CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) — Barangay Ermita last year topped 80 barangays in Cebu City in high prevalence malnutrition rate, at 13.30 percent among preschoolers aged zero to 71 months.
Four other barangays in the top five spot with the highest malnutrition rate in 2010 are Alaska with 11.79 percent, Duljo with 9.60 percent, fourth placer Sapangdaku with 9.37 percent and fifth placer Buot Taup with 8.92 percent, based on data from the City Summary Report on ‘Operation Timbang’ (OPT) 2010 where said age group of children are weighed regularly in barangay health centers to check their nutrition status.
