Lucky Baguio visitors

 BAGUIO CITY — First-time visitors to this mountain resort city will have the chance to receive a 4-day red carpet treatment from the Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club (BCBC) and the city government once they will be lucky to be chosen as this year’s set of lucky summer visitors.

This developed as the BCBC and the local government finalized the details of the search for this year’s lucky summer visitors which will be done in Rosario, La Union in the morning of Maundy Thursday, April 21, 2011. Miguelito T. Velarde, Jr., area director of Sky Cable Northern Luzon and incumbent BCBC president said, the criteria for this year’s selection will be a group of four to six persons who are first-timers in the city and have taken the Baguio-bound buses. P.N.P., A.F.P. Secure Quezon road

CAMP NAKAR, Lucena City — The Quezon provincial government, Quezon Police Provincial Office and Southern Luzon Command (SOLCOM) have launched vital program dubbed as “Patrolya ng Pulis at Kawal Para sa Pagpapanatili ng Katahimikan at Kaayusan ng Pamayanan” based on Joint Peace and Security Coordinating Council.

Police provincial office, public information officer Insp. Elena Eleazar said that the vision of the said operation plan is to fight criminals in the society. The success of the plan is the joint efforts of police, military and local government and most especially the support of the people in the localities. (Danny Estacio)

Cavite fire extinguishers

CAVITE — The Sangguiniang Panlalawigan (Provincial Board) has ratified a resolution requiring all barangays (villages) in Kawit town to have at least one fire extinguisher that can be used in case fire breaks out in the area.

Kawit is the hometown of the late General Emilio F. Aguinaldo, a great revolutionary hero and the country’s first president. The town, which occupies 22.86 square kilometers of land in the province’s first district, has 23 barangays and a population of 76,505, based on latest census report. (Anthony Giron)

Pigar-Pigar Festival

DAGUPAN CITY — This city is known for the delectable bonuan bangus, but this celebration of Bangus Festival, the city is known for another food delicacy known as pigar-pigar. The delicacy’s basic ingredient is carabeef, thinly sliced and sprinkled with salt and deep-fried and garnished with sliced onion.

One can order it with either cauliflower, sliced cabbage or carabeef liver. Pigar-pigar Festival stalls are lined-up along Galvan Street April 14 to 16. They usually open as early as 5 p.m. until dawn. Pigar-Pigar Festival has been for several years now one of the events in the Bangus Festival. (Liezle Basa Inigo)

Adventure race

ALAMINOS CITY, Pangasinan — The “Gali-Langoy” Eco-Adventure Race , first of its kind athletic event will be launched on May 1 here highlighting this year’s Pistay Dayat celebration.

Mayor Hernani Braganza in his continuing quest to make Alaminos City a paradise for tourists, and its world-renowned Hundred Islands with a variety of sports and cultural activities.

Now, Braganza has come up with another and unique sports event where tourists may enjoy this summer. Gali-Langoy, a special breathtaking version of Triathlon. (Liezle Basa Inigo)
