Lucky visitors of Baguio city
BAGUIO CITY — Three Japanese nationals who arrived here in the city were chosen as Baguio Lucky Foreign Visitors 2011 by the Kafagway Summerbest committees.
The visitors are Mari Akagi, 24, a nursing graduate from Kyoto University of Medicine; Reisa Ainai, 20, freshman coed at Yonsie University; and Tatsuo Nakai, 29, Bachelor of Commerce graduate from Meiji University, all from Japan.
The two women said that they were selected to study in the City of Pines because of its cool weather, safety and friendly atmopshere.
Nakai said he chose to be here because “he knew about the Japanese sister cities of Baguio and he would like it to communicate and relate with Filipinos and other international students.” (Rizaldy Comanda)
Quake shakes northern Luzon
SINAIT, Ilocos Sur — A strong quake with 5.3 magnitude rocked some areas in Ilocos Norte and Cagayan provinces last Tuesday afternoon but no reported damage or casualty, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) satellite office based here reported.
Local Phivolcs Researcher Julius Galdiano told Wednesday that 5.3 magnitude quake occured at 1:30 p.m. its epicenter was traced at 128 kilometers northeast of Laoag City with a depth of 15 kilometers.
Galdiano said that intensity 5 was felt in Calayan, Cagayan. (Freddie G. Lazaro)
Session road closed
BAGUIO CITY — Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan here ordered the temporary closure of Session road, the city’s main thoroughfare tomorrow, Good Friday, April 21; and Black Saturday, April 22, 2011 to allow local residents and visitors to pass through a carless road so that they could enjoy the city’s fresh air while meditating and observing the Lenten break.
Administrative order No. 055, series of 2011 closed Session road from its junction with Magsaysay Avenue up to its junction with Fr. Carlo Loop near the Baguio Cathedral to allow devotees to be able to peacefully commemorate the Lenten season. (Dexter A. See)
306 undergo eye operation
LUCENA CITY — About 306 cataract patients were successfully undergone in a 4th time free cataract operation in a joint project of Lucena City, Quezon government and Philippine Academy of Medical Specialists held in Quezon Medical Center, reported yesterday.
PAMS president Dr. Federico Malubay who leads with other eye specialists conducted eye operation upon request of city mayor Barbara Ruby Talaga with cooperation of Quezon gov. David Suarez, Quezon 2nd district board member Romano Talaga and senior city councilor Ramil Talaga for a five-day eye surgery. (Danny Estacio)
‘Bisita Iglesia’ in Cavite city
CAVITE — Over a hundred police and civilian bike enthusiasts joined the “Padyak Para Sa Bisita Iglesia” which was set yesterday at the lowland districts of the province.
Senior Supt. Danilo L. Maligalig, Cavite Police Provincial Office (CPPO) director, led the pack of pedal bikers, which started at 5 a.m. at the Our Lady of Pilar Parish Cathedral in Imus, the seat of diocese and capital of the province, and ended hours later at the parish church of Rosario town in the first district.
The Maligalig biking group visited five other churches in Bacoor, the province’s second district; and Noveleta and Kawit, two other towns in the first district.
