Ifugao to fine river polluters

 HINGYON, Ifugao — An ordinance protecting the municipal rivers in the different barangays here was enacted recently by local legislators to promote the value of protecting river systems, which are the source of food for many villagers.

Known as “Sagip Ilog Ordinance” (SIO), authors by Councilors James Banawol and Francis Baguidudol, said polluters will be penalized under the measure.

The first offense carries a fine of P300 or a penalty of one day community work; second offense – P500 or two days community work; third offense – P1,000 or three days community work.

Succeeding offenses will be penalized P2,000 or five days community work but depending on the discretion of the court where the cases are filed. (Dexter A. See)

Rizal observes earth day

RIZAL PROVINCE — Governor Casimiro “Jun-Jun” Ynares III issued a memorandum to all mayors of the 14 localities of this province to actively observe Earth Day by lining up activities such as a clean-up drive in the waterways, coastal areas and streets.

In Angono, such activities for the caring of the environment will be done on April 30. At the Capitol, employees were reminded to switch off airconditioning and lights during the lunch break and at 4 p.m. and strictly practice waste segregation and recycling. (Nel B. Andrade)

Ship parts firm expands in Subic

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT — Polarmarine, Inc., a household name in ship parts industry, is planning to transfer its production facilities in Malmo, Sweden and Russia to this free port under an expansion program designed to capture the growing shipbuilding industry in Asia.

Carolina Agoo, Polarmarine administration and financial manager, said the expansion will be undertaken for two reasons: first, because of the strategic location of the Subic Bay Freeport, which is closer to the firm’s Asian customers and suppliers; and second, because of the English-speaking skilled workers here. S.K. focuses on malnutrition

BAGAC, Bataan — The National President of the Sangguniang Kabataan National Federation (SKNF) said yesterday that he will rally SK presidents throughout the country to promote programs for the benefit of malnourished children and out-of-school youth.

SKNF President Louise Gabriel “Gabz” del Rosario, 16, said he had already asked SK leaders to push for the welfare of less-fortunate children through better nutrition and sports activities.

Recently, Del Rosario, who is a son of Mayor Ramil del Rosario was invited to the Senate to deliver a speech on environment and support for Arbor Day. (Mar T. Supnad)

19 beauties vie for Limgas tilt

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — Nineteen magnificent beauties from different towns in Pangasinan will vie for the annual search for the “Limgas na Pangasinan” slated on April 30 at 6 p.m. at the Capitol Plaza as one of the highlights of this year’s Pistay Dayat celebration.

The beauty pageant is considered one of the most prestigious competitions in the province that features the stunning physical attributes and wit of a Pangasinense woman.
