MANILA, Philippines – Radio station RJ UR 105.9 FM is blazing a new trail for local broadcasting as it starts streaming via popular networking site, Facebook.

The new music station, which is changing its moniker accordingly to UR Faceradio, is already on test run and could be accessed by millions hooked to the site.

According to reports, the move was hatched after management, led by radio maverick RJ Jacinto Jr., decided to forgo lease on the frequency it is using. The younger Jacinto is the son of Ramon Jacinto, Sr. who owns the long running RJ FM 100.3, the mother company of UR 105.9.

RJ UR 105.9 FM will end its three-year run in the coming months. It had been playing modern rock music as widely encompassing as to include songs by 10,000 Maniacs side by side with that of local heroes, Rizal Underground. It plans to continue utilizing the same format with UR Faceradio.

RJ UR 105.9 FM's transfer to Facebook is touted as the first of its kind around these parts. Plans to make the site more interactive--where listeners could actually see and communicate with DJ’s in real time--is already underway.

A formal launch is set on May 28 with six simultaneous concerts to be seen on live streaming.

There are currently over 22 million Facebook users in the country.
