B.I.R. eyes more capiz firms
ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Philippines (PIA) – The Bureau of Internal Revenue office here is eyeing at least three more business establishments in its “Oplan Kandado” drive till the end of 2011.
“We’ll likely padlock another store by end June,” said local BIR head, Gil Tabanda after locking up the latest erring establishment, a store selling apparel and mobile phones and accessories here.
Over 10 stores have been padlocked from January to April 19 in Roxas City. The campaign, part of the BIR’s efforts to boost revenue collections and prevent further commission of tax violations and/or evasions, covers over 30 percent under declaration of sales.
3 Saravia hanons honored
E.B. Magalona, Negros Occ. (PIA) – E. B. Magalona (formerly Saravia) town in Negros, Occidental honored three residents as "Outstanding Saraviahanons" as part of its fiesta’s “Ugyonan Festival.”
Honored are Glenn Bulfa, an engineer who occupies a high position with the National Grid Commission of the Philippines; retired school principal Emelita Palma who dedicated her life teaching in the town; and Dr. Mitchelle Montebon-Abeto, who is currently a resident physician at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City.
No lunch break at D.A.R.
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte – To provide a continuous service to its clients the Department of Agrian Reform (DAR) in Eastern Visayas has adopted a “No Lunch Break” policy so as to provide continuous service to clients.
All heads of units in the DAR Regional Office were asked to ensure that a personnel is assigned to man the office from 12:00 noon to 1 p.m., Monday to Friday.
The order comes from the DAR Central Office for replication in all DAR field offices per Memorandum No. 8, series of 2011 issued by the Civil Service Commission.
P.N.P. confiscates hot lumber
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) – Police recently confiscated 45 pieces of abandoned red lawaan lumber totaling 1,103.40 board feet along the shores of Sagkahan, Tacloban City.
The police team, headed by Sagkahan Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, PINSP Alex Echon, along with PO1 Joel Estrellas, PO1 Ulyses Son Estonio and PO1 Nolette Pagasartonga in coordination with Brgy. Chair, Milagros Mabini of Brgy. 63, Mangga, Sagkahan, took hold of abandoned lawaan lumber and immediately these turned over to the Tacloban City police office for proper disposition.
The team was alerted by a concerned citizen who directed their attention to the lumber left on the Sagkahan shoreline.
Negros occidental military scores
NEGROS, Occ. (PNA) – A ranking New People’s Army (NPA) leader, identified as Diro Pancho Sanchez alias Ka Ariel, was nabbed by a joint police-military team inside the public market of San Escalante City, this province.
Sanchez is tagged as intelligence officer of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA)’s "Komiteng Rehiyonal-Negros" and finance and logistics officer of the rebels’ Northern Negros Front.
Sanchez faces a criminal case of arson filed against him before the sala of the San Carlos City, Negros Occ. regional trial court and is also facing a criminal case in Negros Oriental. He is included in the order of battle of key NPA cadres in Negros Island.
