Medical activity in San Jose

 SAN JOSE, Antique — Surgeons from the Philippine College of Surgeons-Panay Chapter provided some 250 boys in San Jose, Antique with free circumcision as part of its summer outreach program.

Likewise, 28 doctors and 40 nurses operated on four cases of hernia and in removing of a lump in a local female’s breast area.

A lecture on orthopedic systems and basic life support was also given by Dr. Karen Hope Quimpo and Dr. Lucille Gonzaga mainly for nurses working with the Antique provincial hospital. (Tara Yap)

Aklan’s S.P.E.S. list complete

KALIBO, Aklan (PIA) — The list of students in the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) or “summer job” is complete.

The list was provided by the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) which implements the SPES. This year, six Aklan schools and nine local government units including Aklan, allotted with 760 slots for summer jobs, joined the program.

The program helps poor, deserving students 15 to 25 years old, enrolled or out of school youth who intend to enroll in any secondary, tertiary, technical or vocational education institution.

Antique jobs fair today

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) — Job seekers will troop to the Jobs Fair organized by the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) today at the Gaisano Grand Mall of Antique here.

The job fair will be held ahead of Labor Day because May 1 coincides with the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker and the Tiringbanay Festival here.

Some 13 recruitment agencies offering overseas employment will participate in the fair. Among the jobs offered are for skilled workers like welders, electricians and other construction workers, agricultural workers, domestic helpers, caregivers, and nurses.

P.C.G. confiscates hardwood products

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PNA) – Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel confiscated 69 sets of hardwood products in Capiz for lack of transport permit.

The shipment, with no permit from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources reportedly belongs to one Shirley Yap and was on board a cargo boat from San Fernando, Romblon.

Confiscated were 24 dining sets dining, 42 chairs, a sala set, and love seat with accessories. Twelve persons, including the boat operator, crew and shipment owner were on board the cargo ship when intercepted.

Students hired for summer

BORONGAN, Eastern Samar (PIA) — In line with the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DoLE) Summer Program for Employment of Students (SPES), the local government units of Quinapondan, Maydolong, Balangiga, Gen. Mac-Arthur and Giporlos opened jobs to poor but deserving college students.

Some 125 students applied to become part of the said program. Alexie Abellar, DoLE Officer–in-Charge in the province said the aforementioned towns the chose the students based on the following qualifications: 18-25 years old, family net income not exceeding the latest annual poverty threshold level for a family of six as determined and provided by NEDA, and he/she obtained passing grades in the last school term attended.
