PA to monitor May 1 rallies

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, Philippines (PIA) — The Philippine Army (PA) here will monitor rallies marking Labor Day Saturday.

Lt. Col. Isabelo de los Reyes, Civil Military Operation (CMO) Officer of the PA’s 303rd Infantry Brigade said, “We will monitor left-leaning legal front groups expected to come to Bacolod City, including rallyists from the Escalante, Toboso and Calatrava in the north, and from Cauayan, Hinoba-an, Ilog, Candoni, Kabankalan and Sipalay in the south which we will ask to hold their rally in the Bacolod City Public Plaza or the Fountain of Justice.”

WOW program to be launched

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, (PIA) — A consultative meeting will be held here to discuss plans for expansion and sustainability of the war on worms (WOW) program, said Capiz Provincial Health Officer Dr. Samuel Delfin.

The program will be integrated with the Department of Health (DoH)’s essential health care package and its lymphatic filariasis elimination program.

Delfin said parasites in children contribute to malnutrition and low school performance.

“This is the reason why the Department of Education has put efforts in addressing soil-transmitted helminthiasis or worms in school children,” he said.

PIOs urged in LGUs

CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) — The Cebu Association of City and Municipal Public Information Officers (CAOCAMPIO) said it will work for the designation of a Public Information Officer (PIO), with a regular item, in each city and municipality in the province.

New CAOCAMPIO president, Cebu City PIO Carlo Dugaduga, stressed the importance of the power of communication in bringing progress to local government units in Cebu.

He said CAOCAMPIO’s main purpose is to provide government communication to the people, using this to promote Cebu’s places of interests, products and services.

DepEd-7 depends K+12

CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) — Department of Education (DepEd)-7 Regional Director Recaredo Borgonia is defending the K+12 program which government will implement this school year, saying children needs additional schooling for them to attain a mastery learning level.

The program adds two more years to the present 10 years in grade school. He said the present curriculum is so crowded because previous top officials in the department wanted to teach children with so many subjects within a short period.

Councilors hold assembly

MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte (PIA) — The Philippine Councilors League (PCL) -Southern Leyte Chapter conducted its first Provincial Assembly last April 28-29 at Candy’s Function Hall, in Abgao, Maasin City.

A total of 171 Vice-Mayors and Councilors from Maasin City and 18 towns in the province attended the assembly highlighted by the awarding of prizes to provincial winners of the Department of Interior and Local Government-initiated Local Legislative Award and the giving of plaque of recognition to former PCL members.

Putting a premium on public service and sustainable development, peace and order, disaster risk management were subjects stressed during the Assembly.
