SM City Masinag (Antipolo) opens Friday
MANILA, Philippines – SM Prime Holdings, Inc., the Philippines’ dominant mall chain, is scheduled to open SM City Masinag on Friday, its 41st shopping mall in the country and its second in the province of Rizal, after SM City Taytay.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, SM Prime said the new mall has a gross floor area (GFA) of 90,261 square meters (sqm) and occupies 37,017 sqm of land.
“We warmly welcome all of our loyal customers to our newest mall, SM City Masinag in Antipolo City. The shopping mall is one of three that we will open this year,” said SM Prime president Hans T. Sy.
He added that “All three new SM malls are located outside Metro Manila, in line with our thrust to further expand in the areas where there still is a large unserved demand for the integrated malling, shopping, dining, and entertainment experience that SM Prime ably offers.”
SM City Masinag, located along Antipolo’s Marcos Highway, is already 82 percent lease awarded to various tenants. The shopping mall’s major tenants are SM Department Store and SM Supermarket, which will occupy 12,913 sqm and 6,933 sqm of floor space, respectively. Other mall tenants include Ace Hardware, SM Appliance Center, Watsons, Surplus Shop, BDO Unibank, China Bank, National Bookstore, and Nine West.
SM City Masinag’s amenities include a 408-seat food court; four cinemas with a combined seating capacity of 1,200; and parking slots for 1,000 vehicles.
Antipolo City was recently declared by President Benigno C. Aquino III as a highly urbanized city. It is the largest city in the CALABARZON region in terms of population and it serves as a major suburb just outside Metro Manila.
With SM City Masinag, SM Prime malls all over the country now have a combined GFA of 5.1 million sqm. By the end of 2011, SM Prime will have 43 malls in the Philippines and four in China with an estimated combined GFA of 5.9 million sqm.
