Subic port has P30-M surplus

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT, Philippines — The Port of Subic registered a P30-million surplus in Customs revenue as reflected in its actual cash collections versus target for the January-April period this year.

Figures from the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) showed that Subic’s year-on-year cash collection performance in the four-month period reached P2 billion, surpassing last year’s record of P1.6 billion by 25.26 percent.

In April alone, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) here easily surpassed the target of P622 million after coming up with P623 million, the highest monthly cash revenue so far this year. With this record, the Port of Subic emerged as one of the five ports in the country to surpass their target. (Jonas Reyes)

85 join forum on democracy

BAGUIO CITY — Eighty-five young and talented leaders from Northern Luzon gathered here recently to participate in the two-day forum on democracy that focused on the power and role of citizens which was sponsored by the United States Embassy in Manila.

The venue became an opportunity for participants to form linkages with one another and create a domino effect in their respective sectors in advocating for a full and matured democracy in the country and serve as a model in the Asia-Pacific region. (Dexter A. See)

Tondaligan masterplan

DAGUPAN CITY, Pangasinan — The masterplan for the development of Tondaligan Beach Park to be a major tourist attraction has been outlined, Mayor Benjamin Lim of this city announced yesterday.

Lim began with the strengthening of a cooperative on which livelihood programs for locals will be anchored.

Elected to top positions in the Tondaligan Blue Beach Cooperative were Deborah Beltran-Castillo as general manager, and Ernie C. Dispo as assistant general manager.

Lim intends to build a uniform structure of sheds for around 120 cooperative members who will begin businesses that will complement the expected crowd of beach tourists. (Liezle Basa Iñigo)

Actress-politician now regional head

STA. CRUZ, Laguna — Board Member Angelica Jones Alarva brought pride to her constituents in the 3rd District of this province as she was elected regional president of the National Movement of Young Legislators (NYML) in Region 4-A.

A neophyte politician, Alarva has been recognized for support for programs on the welfare of the youth and women.

She was awarded Outstanding Board Member 2011 during the Global Awards and Top Brand Awards in Quezon City and Outstanding Woman of the Month by the Police Regional Office 4-A recently. (Ferdinand F. Castro)

Police called to resist bribes

CAMP TOLENTINO, Bataan — Police here were reminded over the weekend by their provincial director,

Senior Superintendent Arnold D. Gunnacao, to be loyal to their sworn duty and resist bribes just the way investigators from the Provincial Intelligence Office (PIO) did recently when one Roberto Javate, of Samal town tried to offer them P100,000 to release an arrested person.

Gunnacao said Javate allegedly tried to bribe PIO investigators to fix the case being lodged against his cousin, Michael Buensuceso, but was instead arrested and charged with violation of Article 212, Corruption of Public officials. (Mar T. Supnad)
