Sulu earmarks P37 M for projects

MAIMBUNG, Sulu, Philippines – The provincial government of Sulu has embarked on a massive implementation of infrastructure projects and facilities all over the province aimed at promoting economic growth in the area.

Sulu Gov. Abdusakur Tan said the provincial government has allotted some P37 million for the construction of various infrastructure projects and facilities.

Tan said the projects are very vital for the economic development of the municipality where it is located and the province in general.

He said the provincial government has allocated P12 million for the improvement of the water system of this town, and another P3 million for the construction of the town hall and police station here.

Jolo, the capital town of the province, was likewise allotted with P7.5 million for the improvement of its drainage system, while Indanan got P2.5 million for the construction of its public market.

Tan also allotted P1 million each: to the towns of Panglima Tahil for the improvement and renovation of the town hall; Pata, for improvement of its rural health unit building; Pandami, for the improvement of its local wharf; Lugus, for the construction of its water impounding dam; Pangutaran, for the improvement of its seaport; Panamao, for the improvement of its public market; Panglima Estino, for the expansion of its the port; Talipao, for the acquisition of an electric generating set; Siasi, for the improvement of its port, and Patikul, for the improvement of its town hall.

He also allotted P1 million each to Parang and Kalingalang Kaluang for the construction of various infrastructure projects in their respective areas.

Tan said that some of the projects have already been completed and inaugurated by the provincial government in cooperation with their respective town officials.

Significant projects that require a longer time to complete are now more than 50 percent completed and is expected to be completed in due time, said Tan.

He said funds for the projects are taken from the 20 percent development fund of the province, and sourced out from the monthly Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) of the province.
