MARIKINA CITY, Philippines – During these hard times, anything will do even in gambling.

Friday night, four people were arrested after while playing a card game using shabu as bets.

Senior Inspector Eduardo Cayetano, chief of the Marikina police Criminal Investigation Division, identified the suspects as Julius Durano, 49, of Pechay Street, Barangay Tumana, Marikina City; Vergel Luna, 30, a taxi driver of H. Bautista St., Concepcion Uno; Mateo Millares, 40 of Purok 5, Brgy. Cupang, Antipolo City; and Jeffrey Sumayan, 18, of Block 55, Pipino St., Brgy. Tumana, Marikina City.

Police said the suspects were playing “pusoy,” a card game, at about 10 p.m. Friday in Barangay Tumana when Durano started losing and eventually ran out of cash.

Wanting to continue playing, he asked the other players if they will allow him to use his sachet of shabu worth P300 as bet.

Millares readily agreed and convinced the other players to allow Durano to continue playing.

Without the players’ knowledge, one of the kibitzers reported the incident to the police who responded and arrested the four players.
