Computers for Negros Or. schools

NEGROS ORIENTAL, Philippines (PNA) — Some 46 public high schools here are beneficiaries of government’s Personal Computers for Public Schools (PCPS) Phase 4 project implemented through the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

The project will be launched July 5 in a school in Dauin town. Majority of the project’s beneficiaries are in the province’s third district where many new schools and school buildings have been built. Each beneficiary will get a package comprised of a Wi-Fi ready desktop computer, a printer, a automatic voltage regulator, and an uninterrupted power supply per package.

D.O.H.'s advice vs. dengue considered

ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PNA) — The Department of Education (DepEd) in Iloilo is considering the Department of Health's (DoH) suggestion to allow primary and secondary students in the city to wear long pants and long sleeves shirts as protection from mosquito bites, particularly from the dreaded dengue-causing Aedes Aegpyti strain.

Asst. City Schools Supt. Angelita Ragudo said opening of classes next week is also the start of the regular rainy season when more mosquitoes are spawned. The DepEd is concerned about students’ health and while public school students are not required to wear uniforms, they would be allowed appropriate clothing as protection against mosquito bites, Ragudo said.

L.G.U. help eyed for bridges

KALIBO, Aklan (PNA) — Six bridges in Aklan province are unsafe, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) here. The agency lacks funds and has turned to the provincial government for financial aid in the repair and rehabilitation of the bridges located in Tangalan, Makato, Balete, Altavas, and Buruanga. These bridges also include also the century-old Kalibo-Numancia Bridge, which is said to be one of the oldest and longest bridges in Western Visayas. It connects eastern Aklan to the province’s western district and serves as a primary road for tourists coming to and from Boracay Island.

Degamo for responsible gun ownership

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PNA) — Sharpshooter Gov. Roel Ragay Degamo is backing responsible gun ownership in Negros Oriental and is assuring gun enthusiasts and licensed gun holders here of his support in holding a quarterly shooting competition in the province.

Degamo was present during a recent shooting contest held by the Dumaguete Shooters Association at the DSA firing range in Looc, Sibulan town recently. For his part, Philippine National Police (PNP) provincial director Sr. Supt. Rey Lyndon Lawas asked licensed gun holders here to instill discipline among themselves.

3Ps expanded in S. Leyte

MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte — The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) provincial office has included five more local government units (LGUs) in the Pantawid Pasada Program (3Ps), bringing to a total 15 towns and one city in Southern Leyte the number of LGUs benefiting from government’s national fuel assistance program.

The towns of San Juan, San Ricardo, St. Bernard, and Sogod except Lilo-an are now completing such required documents as a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) and sanitized list of transport – tricycle operators in their respective areas.
