MANILA, Philippines -- “Temptation Island,” which is being filmed now, is a remake of the ’80s box-office hit movie directed by the late Joey Gosengfiao. It was then produced by Regal Films, which is doing the remake with GMA-7 as co-producer.

Based on the trailer we have seen, the 2011 reboot may yet surpass the ’80s version because it seems sexier, more flirtatious, more daring, and more titillating.

As part of a very interesting feature of “Temptation Island,” a fashion show modeling the creations of the country’s top fashion designers was held.

The perks of today's technology-paced era should serve the remake well as lead stars of “Temptation Island,” Kapuso primetime queen Marian Rivera, award winning actresses Heart Evangelista and Lovi Poe, “Survivor” castaway Solenn Heussaff, and talented sexy comedienne Rufa Mae Quinto enjoyed the advantages of a modern setup.

The creative minds behind the innovative outfits were Louis Claparols for Marian Rivera, Ferdie Abuel for Heart Evangelista, Eric delos Santos for Lovi Poe, Jeffrey Rogador for Mikael Daez, and Jona Ballaran for Rufa Mae Quinto. The footwear were custom-made by Maco Custodio.

Playing boytoys to the women are Aljur Abrenica, Tom Rodriguez, and of course, Mikael Daez.

Azenith Briones, Jennifer Cortez, Bambi Arambulo, Dina Bonnevie and Deborah Sun starred in the original movie.

The new “Temptation Island.” directed by Chris Martinez, boasts of an intricate production design. It was partly shot in Paoay, Ilocos Norte.

Ex-Bulletin man outstanding Malabon awardee

Former Manila Bulletin reporter Ferdie Maglalang was among this year’s awardees of the 30th Gintong Parangal of Malabon City for his scholastic achievement in the field of media and journalism.

During the event, several others were also honored by the City Government of Malabon and the Kalipunan ng mga Samahan ng Malabon held May 21, at the city’s amphitheater.

Maglalang is a former reporter of the Manila Bulletin for 12 years covering the Senate and the Malacañang beat where he was elected as president of the Malacañang Press Corps from 2004 to 2006.

He was given the “2011 Gawad ng Pakilala” in recognition for earning his masters degree in global journalism under the Erasmus Mundus Masters in Media and Journalism within Globalization: The European Perspective scholarship program.

He graduated from the University of Aarhus in Denmark, University of Amsterdam in The Netherlands, and University of Wales, Swansea, in the United Kingdom where he specialized in conflict and war reporting.

When he came back to the Philippines, he worked as media and communications director of Sen. Richard Gordon and the Ang Kasangga Party-list. He is now working as consultant to the Embassy of the Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
