Checkpoints for rotten fish up

June 3, 2011, 5:09pm

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Philippines — The Police Provincial Office (PPO) has stepped up efforts to block the transport and sale of double-dead fish from fishkill areas in Anda and Bolinao, in the western coast of this province.

Senior Superintendent Rosueto Ricaforte, PPO director, deployed police to man checkpoints that will monitor and confiscate any delivery of “bangus” (milkfish) from fishkill-affected areas.

City Agriculturist Emma Molina advised consumers to check carefully the milkfish they buy in the market and reject those which are sold without gills and insides – which are determinants for the freshness of fish. (Liezle Basa Iñigo)

Remulla accepts new police OIC

IMUS, Cavite — Governor Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla Jr. has accepted the designation of Senior Superintendent John Cresecnio Bulalacao as officer-in-charge (OIC) of the Police Provincial Office (PPO) here with a vow of support for the 1,525-strong police force.

Bulalacao replaced Senior Supt. Danilo L. Maligalig, PPO director, last May 4. The sudden change of guard at the PPO was made while Remulla was abroad, raising controversy that the highest-ranking police official in the province was installed without due courtesy to the governor. Remulla is set to turn over to the PPO 10 new patrol cars, firearms and equipment for the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) on June 13. (Anthony Giron)
