DOE warns vs dubious gasoline

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, Philippines (PIA) — The Department of Energy is warning motorists against buying gasoline from questionable sources as oil products from these outlets have not undergone quality control.

DoE Visayas Supervising Engineer Rey Maleza said oil products sold in highways and sidewalks have not undergone proper procedures and may contain substances harmful to vehicle engines.

Maleza cited the confiscation of 1,000 containers of smuggled oil products in Iloilo recently that have found its way in “tingi-tingi (piecemeal)” stores but could be substandard in quality.

Capiz town completes shelter project

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office 6 lauded the town of Ivisan, Capiz for the fast completion of its shelter project.

DSWD regional director Minda B. Brigoli congratulated the local government of Ivisan for the speedy implementation of the Modified Shelter Assistance Project at the town’s Barangay Agustin Navarra in an online news posted at the DSWD 6 portal.

The project has allocated P500,000 for the construction of 10 shelter units for victims of typhoon Frank. Ivisan mayor Felipe Yap also noted that the municipal government and Brgy. Agustin Navarra have also pitched in P100,000 and P65,000, respectively, for the project.

Public transport in Antique aided

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) — Financial aid for Antique province’s public transport sector will be released soon.

Engr. Rey Maleza, supervising science research specialist of DoE-Visayas, who was in town for a briefing on the Public Transport Assistance Program (PTAP) or popularly known as "Pantawid Pasada” said in Region 6, a total of 10,267 cards will be transferred to the Land Transportation Office which will then allocate these to their provincial offices.

In Antique, there are 464 franchise holders per LTFRB data. The Pantawid Pasada Program has a budget of P450 million with the public jeepneys getting P300 million and tricycles P150 million.

Southern Leyte Green Summit set

MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte (PIA) — Congressman Roger Mercado announced that in connection with the National Greening Program (NGP) of the government, a Greening Summit will be held in this province.

The lone Southern Leyteno lawmaker made the announcement in his brief message during the inauguration and turn-over of the GIZ-funded Mangrove Resource and Environment Learning Center (MRELC) in barangay San Roque, Macrohon, Friday, to the provincial government.

Naval officials join flag ceremony

NAVAL, Biliran (PIA) — Key officials of the local government unit of Naval, in the province of Biliran, including Mayor Susan Parilla and Vice Mayor Redentor Villordon attended the flag- raising ceremony on the first day of classes for the school year 2011-2012 of the Naval Central School (NCS), the biggest elementary school in Naval, the capital town of Biliran.

The flag ceremony was well attended by the pupils from Grades I to VI who were also joined in by their parents.

Also there were Brgy. Captain Keril Pitao and other barangay officials.
