New courthouse built in Baguio

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – Sandiganbayan justices, headed by Presiding Judge Edilberto G. Sandoval, led recently the unveiling of the marker for the newly-constructed P60-million courthouse and living quarters in Barangay Dominican Hill, here.

The construction of the new courthouse will allow the holding of sessions of the Sandiganbayan in the city more comfortable not only to the members of the graft court but also to the litigants. Justices Roland B. Jurado, Teresita V. Diaz-Baldos, Samuel R. Martires, Napoleon E. Inoturan, Rafael R. Lagos and Oscar C. Herrera, Jr. joined the dignitaries in the inauguration of the Sandiganbayan’s courthouse in this mountain resort city. (Dexter A. See)

Angono hosts John Paul relic

ANGONO, Rizal – Residents here believe that the visit of the relic and other memorabilia of Blessed John Paul II in this town will bring them blessings and miracles. Lloyd Miranda, one of the organizers of the visit of the relic – a piece of cloth reportedly worn by Blessed John Paul II at the time of his death, said the Parish Pastoral Council of St. Clement Church was responsible for hosting the relic from June 14 to 27, 2011.

Father Cloyd Bagabaldo, a former priest at St. Clement who is now the parish priest at the Most Holy Redeemer Parish in Masambong, Quezon City, was instrumental in bringing of the JPII relic and other items in this town while other papal memorabilia are owned by Mr. Carmelo Cortez. DPWH Region 3 building burns

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — More than P40 million worth of public property went up in smoke when a fire hit the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office 3 building on MacArthur Highway in Barangay Sindalan, San Fernando City, this province, Friday.

Chief Superintendent Edgardo T. Ladao said the fire started around 3 a.m. and reached the fourth fire alarm before being put under control at 4:20 a.m. and subsequently declared out by 6:30 a.m. Arson investigators have not pinpointed the cause of the fire. No casualties were reported. (Franco G. Regala)

Half-mast for Cavite cop

Senior Superintendent John C. Bulalacao, officer-in-charge (OIC) of Cavite Police Provincial Office (PPO), cited posthumously a Mendez-Nuñez town policeman for his bravery and dedication to duty. Bulalacao said Police Officer 2 Larry D.

Medina, 32, died last June 11 after the police motorcycle he was driving was sideswiped by a passenger jeepney, driven by one Poly Tagas. Medina was chasing Tagas after figuring in a hit-and-run of another passenger jeepney driven by one Aubrey P. Perido. (Anthony Giron)
