David Charlton, founder of David's Salon, passes away at 69

Celebrity hairdresser David Charlton, best known for his beauty salon chain David's Salon, has passed away at the age of 69. 

The news was confirmed through the salon's official social media page.

"It is with profound sadness and heavy heart that we learned of the passing of one of the pillars of the salon industry in the country - Mr. David Charlton.

“Together with the whole industry, loyal clients, and countless friends, we mourn the passing of an industry leader.

“His life’s work and legacy are inextricably intertwined with our work and for that we will always be grateful. Mr. David Charlton leaves behind a legacy that will long-serve to inspire Filipino hairdressers and stylists today and in the future

“Mr. David Charlton - you are always loved, will never be forgotten, and will forever be missed. Our sincere condolences, may your soul rest in peace,” the caption wrote.

Details about David's cause of death were not disclosed.

David's early days

Born into a family of hairdressers in England, David began working in a salon at 16. Making his way to the Philippines in 1978, David worked at a salon that eventually became his own.

In 1989, David opened his own salon at the New Farmer's Market, Quezon City.

Since then, David has become one of the pioneers of beauty salons in the Philippines. Bringing affordable prices and excellent customer service, the salon has expanded to several locations in the country.

He became the official hairdresser of Binibining Pilipinas candidates such as Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach.

Among the many Filipino celebrities David worked with was beauty queen Bea Rose Santiago, who honored the late hairdresser on Instagram.

"Thank you for choosing me, Mr David! Loved being your Brand Endorser!” she said. “Will miss you dearly. I loved joking around with you! You made work so much better! Thank you.” Bea wrote in the comment section.

Public viewing of David's wake will begin today, Oct. 30, at 2:00 p.m. until Nov. 02. The last mass will take place at The Chapels Heritage Park Taguig on Nov. 3
