Threads has activated its fediverse feature in the Philippines. This is done through ActivityPub protocol allowing users to share content across interconnected social networks. This opens communication and expands reach.
Allow me to explain. With the fediverse you won't be locked into one platform. If you have, say, built a strong following on X, you can bring those in other places like Instagram, Facebook, etc. all without starting over. You own your content, you take it with you. So, if a platform loses users or shuts down, you won’t have to start from scratch again. In addition, your followers can easily find you elsewhere. It’s all interconnected.
As an example, if you’re using Threads, you will see replies from other social platforms like Mastodon.
To turn on the fediverse feature in Threads, update the app and head to your Account settings. There you will find "Fediverse Sharing". You'll find more information about this feature there as well.
Threads’ implementation of the fediverse isn't perfect. It’s still in its beta phase, but it’s a start, at least, of you owning your content.
