Aklan LGUs gets electronic trikes
KALIBO, Aklan, Philippines (PIA) — Winace Holdings Phils., Inc.-Technoscrat Corp. president Leonardo Cruz recently turned over two solar and battery operated electric tricycles to the Aklan provincial government and Malay town in a turnover ceremony attended by Aklan Governor Carlito Marquez, Malay Mayor John P. Yap and KASANGGA party-list Rep. Teodorico Haresco Jr. who facilitated the turnover of the e-trikes.
“The e-trike is an invention that should have been made long ago. They’re a good livelihood source and will solve problems caused by climate change as they don’t emit carbon dioxide,” Marquez told members of Aklan’s transport groups.
Samar indigents get Philhealth cards
BORONGAN, Eastern Samar (PIA) — In line with government’s agenda in providing universal health care for Filipinos, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) turned over 24,203 PhilHealth ID card with Member Data Records (MDRs) to 22 municipalities and one city in Eastern Samar.
The ID cards were turned over by Acisclo B. Militante, Division Chief, Field Operations Division, of PhilHealth-Region 8 and Josephine B. Mosquisa, Chief Social Insurance Officer, PhilHealth Borongan to Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer (PSWDO) Gil A. Rebamuntan, in behalf of Governor Conrado B. Nicart Jr.
Antique to get weather station
SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) — A weather station is being built in Brgy. Pangpang, Sibalom town, Antique province in a lot owned by the provincial government with the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) providing it with forecasting instruments.
Provincial Agriculturist Nick Calawag said the station will provide local and reliable weather forecast that could help in disaster preparedness, mitigation and risk management in agriculture. He also underlined the importance of localized weather forecast for the local fisherfolks.
Leyte REDD Plus campaign on
MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte (PIA) — The foreign-funded campaign Reducing Emission from Deforestation of Forest Degradation (REDD) Plus is now gaining ground as various activities by participating local government units here are underway.
Southern Leyte and Panay Island which are the two pilot areas for the REDD Plus in the country has been tapping people’s organizations particularly among Community-Based Forest Management (CBFM) areas in the province. Carbon stocks inventory were undertaken in mountain ranges covering Silago, Sogod, Bontoc, and Tomas Oppus towns and Maasin City in Southern Leyte.
2nd run for peace held
DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) — A second round of “Run for Peace” by the 11th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army was held Sunday for the Lapu-Lapu Educational Assistance Program (LEAP) scholars of Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) in Guihulngan.
A five-kilometer ‘bayanihan walk’ started at 5:30 a.m. from the 11IB’s headquarters in Brgy. Mckinley, and ended at the Public Plaza of Guihulngan City. Dubbed “Bayanihan: Lakad at Takbo para sa Kapayapaan, Tungo sa Kaunlaran.”
