Pampanga farmers, fishers assured aid
SAN FERNANDO CITY, Pampanga, Philippines — With most of the province rising from the devastation wrought by massive flooding from tropical storms “Egay” and “Falcon” last month, provincial officials led by Governor Lilia Pineda vowed Tuesday to give their all-out support to farmers and fisherfolk affected adversely by the natural calamity.
Based on data submitted by Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA), the flood damage on crops and fisheries has reached P423.93 million, affecting 8,379 farmers and fishermen in the areas of Mabalacat, Magalang, Angeles City, Sasmuan, Floridablanca,Lubao, Guagua, Sta. Rita, Bacolor, City of San Fernando, Mexico, Sta.Ana, Arayat,Candaba, Apalit, Macabebe, Minalin, San Luis, San Simon, Sto. Tomas and Masantol. (Franco G. Regala)
Rizal PPO to donate blood
TAYTAY, Rizal — In line with its commitment to bring their services closer to the people, the Rizal Police Provincial Office (PPO) has line up activities in line with the celebration of Police Community Relations Month.
Senior Supt. Manuel Cesar Prieto, PPO director, has scheduled a series of bloodletting activities at the headquarters here, to give the policemen the opportunity to donate blood to the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC).
At least 45 police recruits have volunteered in the blood donation program of the PPO and the PNRC during the first batch of the blood-letting activity earlier. (Nel B. Andrade)
River clean-up and assistance
LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — While the provincial government forges on with massive river clean-up activities in this province, Governor Amado T. Espino Jr. is also working on spreading livelihood assistance to fisherfolk affected adversely by recent flooding.
Espino led the distribution of some 710 fishing paraphernalia (tabal) to marginalized fishermen in the towns of Lingayen, Binmaley, San Fabian, Labrador, Bugallon and San Carlos City under the provincial government’s livelihood assistance project, at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC). Padilla arrested
ANGELES CITY, Pampanga — Actor Robin Padilla’s elder brother, Royette, was arrested by police here last Monday after complaints that he had mauled his wife inside a bar located at the Clark Freeport Economic Zone.
Senior Supt. Rodolfo Recomono Jr., Angeles City Police Office (ACPO) acting city director, said the arrest of Royette Padilla came after his wife, Jane Cheryl Padilla, 39, complained that he beat her up inside the V8 Resto Bar l inside the Freeport.
The bruised complainant said the incident happened at 2 a.m. after they celebrated the birthday of their son at the establishment. (Franco G. Regala)
‘Dirty dozen' fall in Laguna
BIÑAN CITY, Laguna — Twelve people, including an alleged member of a notorious drug syndicate, were arrested in a simultaneous drug operations in three villages, here, last Monday, police reported Tuesday.
Supt. Leonard Luna, Binan City police chief said his men conducted anti-illegal drug operation in Barangays Canlalay, San Antonio, and Malaban after receiving reports in rampant illegal drug activities in the villages.
The simultaneous raids led to the seizure of sachets of suspected “shabu;” marked money; and three loaded firearms. (Ferdinand F. Castro)
