Bago City police holds symposium
BAGO CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines (PIA) — Bago City police conducted a drug symposium and gave crime prevention tips at the General Juan Araneta Elementary School recently. The activity was aimed at behavior modification to help students become law-abiding citizens.
It was also initiated to bring the PNP closer to the students and teach them to respect authority and their teachers. The symposium was attended by principal, faculty, staff and selected students with problems in school.
PCCI aids Iloilo's BLT program
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PIA) — Iloilo City’s in-school feeding program called “Busog, Lusog, Talino” (BLT) received a donation of P100,000 from the Philippine Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Inc. (PCCI) recently.
The BLT initiative will feed undernourished pupils in Grades 1 and 2 in 16 public elementary schools with nutritious lunch meals for 136 days, starting July 18.
The children will be given fruits and vegetable broth (or “laswa” in the local dialect) to improve their health through good nutrition.
Bacolod fire victims get aid
BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occ. (PIA) — Fire victims from Barangay 27 here received fire shelter assistance from the local government of Bacolod only four years later because, as Bacolod City Vice-Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson explained, said aid was delayed because the local government had to comply with Commission on Audit requirements.
Fire razed Purok Chereza, Rizal St., Brgy. 27, last May 27, 2007, totally damaging nine houses, partially damaging three houses and leaving four shelter renters without houses. Assistance worth a total of P9,000 were given to those affected.
Island school to be repaired
DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) — The Negros Oriental government has allotted a P1.5 million to repair the lone elementary school building in Apo Island, in Dauin, Negros Oriental. Construction materials are now being ferried from the mainland to Apo Island to fix the dilapidated one-storey, three-classroom building.
Funds for this purpose will be taken from the provincial government's Special Educational Fund (SEF), according to Engr. Maelen Jimenez of the Provincial Engineering’s Office (PEO)'s maintenance and public work division. Apo Island, a world-renowned dive destination seven kilometers off the southeastern tip of Negros Island, is an island barangay under Dauin town with a population of 745 based on the 2007 Census.
Nutrition caravan goes to Daram
TACLOBAN CITY Leyte (PIA) — As part of the current 2011 Nutrition Month Celebration, themed ”Isulong ang BREASTFEEDING – Tama, Sapat at EKsklusibo,” a nutrition caravan will be conducted in the island town of Daram, Samar yesterday.
Dubbed HIMSoG-8 Media Caravan, the activity is spearheaded by the National Nutrition Council -8 and the HIMSoG-8, an association of local private and government media advocating proper nutrition. The caravan will include a lecture focused on the importance of breastfeeding among community folks, especially mothers, in ensuring their children’s health.
