Gov wants firms pro-environment

MALOLOS CITY, Bulacan, Philippines — A stern warning was issued Tuesday by Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy Alvarado to factories and chemical treatment facilities to comply with environmental requirements or face closure.

His warning came, following his enforcement last Thursday of a closure order on The Cleveland Envirotech Solutions Inc. and Cleveland Skyline Industries in Barangay Tunkong Mangga, San Jose del Monte, this province.

Alvarado said that due to the alleged non-compliance of the firm’s treatment recycling recovery conversion, storage and disposal facility to environmental laws, 30 families in the community had fled after suffering from respiratory diseases. (Freddie C. Velez)

Pilar zip line for tourism

MT. SAMAT, Pilar, Bataan — Mayor Charlie Pizarro revealed Tuesday that all had been set for the construction and installation of a zip line atop of the historic Mt. Samat, and this will draw more tourists in this strategic and fast developing town in Bataan.

The initial length of the zip line will be approximately 550 meters starting from atop Mt. Samat shrine going down to Dungsulan Falls. Known internationally being the site of the yearly celebration of “Araw ng Kagitingan,” Mt. Samat has been a prominent venue for tourism in Bataan not only for its rich history, but its unique environment and view overlooking Manila Bay and nearby provinces of Pampanga, Bulacan and Nueva Ecija. Bulacan's cleanest

MALOLOS CITY, Bulacan — The cleanest towns and city in the province have been chosen by the Bulacan Kalinisan Task Force (BKTF) and awarded by Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy Alvarado in ceremonies held Tuesday at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium.

“This quarter’s winners for Pinakamalinis na Bayan o Lungsod were the towns of of Pulilan, Bustos, San Rafael and the city of San Jose del Monte for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th districts, respectively, and the municipalities of Calumpit, Plaridel, Norzagaray and Sta. Maria were adjudged runners up,” said Alvarado. (Freddie C. Velez)

200 youth given IT training

ALAMINOS CITY, Pangasinan — Almost 200 out-of-school youths (OSYs) and elderly folk benefited from the Computer Van Aralan Program, a free computer literacy module launched jointly by the city government with the Ai Hu Foundation, ABS Party- list, and the Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

The program seeks to help the new graduates gain sufficient knowledge on computer applications, troubleshooting, and hardware maintenance for free with their diplomas awarded last Monday at the Don Leopoldo Sison Auditorium, here. (Liezle Basa Iñigo)

MGB maps CAR's danger areas

BAGUIO CITY — The Cordillera office of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) here is now undertaking the mandatory detailed geohazard-mapping in eight identified high risk towns in three provinces in the region to specifically determine geohazard areas to guide local governments in the formulation of policies that will ensure the safety of their populace.

The areas where the detailed geohazard mapping are now being done include the towns of Itogon, Tublay and Mankayan in Benguet; Lagawe and Kiangan in Ifugao; Tabuk City in Kalinga and Pillar in Abra. (Dexter A. See)
