Fried rice festival feeds 15,000

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — Different varieties of fried rice will be featured this year during the 8th Hotel and Restaurant Tourism (HRT) Weekend scheduled first week of September, in time for the city’s Charter Day celebration. The Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio (HRAB) will be featuring a Fried Rice Festival that is targeted to feed more than 15,000 local residents and tourists here in Baguio City on September 3 at the SM Atrium.

HRAB president and Baguio Country Club General Manager Anthony De Leon said that they have decided to feature at least eight flavors of fried rice this year to highlight the HRT weekend which will significantly contribute in continuously enticing foreign and domestic tourists to visit the city. New Kalinga board member proclaimed

TABUK CITY, Kalinga — The Provincial Board of Canvassers (PBOC) Chaired by Atty. Nicasio Jacob officially proclaimed Deogenes Gupa-al as the duly elected number 4 member of the Provincial Board District last June 30. Gupa-al took his oath of office before Judge Victor Dalanao.

He officially took his seat last July 1 and will be joining for the first time the regular Provincial Board meeting Thursday. He will be serving the province for two years until the next elections in 2013. (Dexter A. See)

Bulacan hosts 3rd RDC summit

CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan — More than 100 council members gathered in this province Wednesday morning as Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado, chairman of the Sectoral Committee on Infrastructure Development (SCID) of the Regional Development Council (RDC), hosts the 3rd full council meeting held at the Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center in this city.

Aside from the development report of the provinces in the region, infrastructure, social, economic and other issues were also discussed in the said meeting. (Freddie C. Velez)

Medical mission in San Pedro

SAN PEDRO, Laguna — Some 1,600 poor residents benefited a two-day medical mission and feeding program sponsored by a City Mayor from South Korea during his visit in this town.

Mr. Sonny Orduna, head of Tourism and Cultural Affairs said Mayor Kim Chung-Seog, of Yeosu City sponsored a two-day medical mission included dental, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics-gynecology, family medicine, skin and urology, dermatology, FBS, Korean traditional medicine (acupuncture) in the villages of Poblacion and Landayan. Angeles social hygiene clinic opened

ANGELES CITY, Pampanga — Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jesse Robredo led on Monday the inauguration rites of the country’s first barangay-owned and controlled social hygiene clinic in Brgy. Balibago here. Robredo lauded the Balibago barangay council for their efforts initiating the P3.6 million project which seeks to monitor and prevent the spread of Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) in the city’s entertainment district.

He said that the establishment of the facility is “an initial step towards solving bigger problems such as poverty and unemployment.” The DILG chief called on all stakeholders to unite in addressing the country’s problems saying “we are stronger if we understand each other.” (Franco Regala)
