SGV, AFAB hold tax seminar

MARIVELES, Bataan, Philippines — The SGV & Co., in cooperation with the Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB), recently conducted an accounting and tax seminar for the locators of the Freeport Area of Bataan (FAB).

‘Gawad Kalasag’ search in Quezon

LUCENA CITY, Quezon — The Quezon Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMC) is starting to accept nominations for the “Gawad Kalasag” award, for the year 2011. Dr. Henry Buzar, Provincial Civil Defense Deputized Coordinator of the PDRRMC-Quezon said the Gawad Kalasag is a search for excellence in disaster risk reduction management and humanitarian assistance.

“This is being implemented by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in collaboration with the local disaster risk reduction and management councils nationwide”. Civic organizations, non-government organizations and other groups in the province may nominate local disaster risk reduction and management councils and individuals for the award. (Danny Estacio)

No outbreak

IMUS, Cavite — There was no reported disease outbreak in any cities and towns of Cavite in the first six months of the year, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) reported Thursday. Dr. Nelson Soriano, provincial epidemiologist, however, said that the citizens should not let their guards down with the report “as the disease can strike anyone anytime in any places.”

Soriano said that his advocacy in the fight against the diseases is ACT (an acronym for awareness, cleanliness and treatment). Cavite is a disease-vulnerable province, considering its number of depressed areas and population of 3.3 million. (Anthony Giron)
432,000 FINGERLINGS

IBA, Zambales — Around 432,000 tilapia fingerlings were released last week by the Zambales Provincial Agriculture Office (ZPAO) to various municipalities in this province. Governor Hermogenes Ebdane Jr., PAO head Dr. Rene Mendoza, and fisheries division chief Reynaldo Reologio distributed the fingerlings to various municipal agriculturists.

Ebdane ordered the dispersal of the tilapia fingerlings after a study by the department acknowledged the dwindling number of fish stocks in the communal rivers and lakes in Zambales. (Jonas Reyes)

Laguna library gets 15 computers

SAN PABLO CITY, Laguna — Reverend Noel Artilaga of Pagsanjan led the blessing of 15 new computer sets donated by the Rotary Club International-Korea to the Library Hub of the Department of Education (DepEd), here.

The simple blessing of the computers were witnessed by DepEd officials, headed by Dr. Eric Sanchez, city schools superintendent; Gerardi Balbuena, Rotary Club of San Pablo president; and local officials.

Mayor Vic Amante thanked the Rotary Club International of Korea for its support to public education in this city and the 3rd District of Laguna. (Ferdinand F. Castro)
