Some areas in Manila 'not passable' due to flooding -Manila DRRMO

The local government of Manila announced on Wednesday morning, July 24, that some areas in the city were not passable to all types of vehicles due to flooding caused by heavy rains brought by the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and enhanced by Typhoon Carina.

In its 6:26 a.m. update, the local government said that the following areas were not passable to all types of vehicles:

  • Finance Taft
  • Nakpil Taft
  • Pedro Gil Taft
  • Padre Faura Taft
  • UN Avenue
  • Kalaw Taft
  • Ayala Boulevard
  • España Boulevard

 

At around 4:45 a.m., the city government initially released details on the streets in the city affected by floods, reporting gutter-deep floods in Adriatico, Padre Faura, Quirino Station (Vito Cruz L.), Quirino Station (facing Vito Cruz R.), P. Ocampo to Roxas, Quirino Station (to Entrance), P. Ocampo to LRT Station, Taft NBI Parking and Exit, and Taft corner Natividad (passenger loading zone).

Half-tire deep floods were also recorded on Taft Avenue NBI, Taft Kalaw, and Taft Avenue Quirino, which were all not passable to light vehicles.

As the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) continuously conducted a roving operation on España Boulevard at around 5:49 a.m., it recorded a gutter-deep flood on Dapitan while knee-high floods were noted on Maceda, España cor. Maceda, and Florentino Streets.

The Manila DRRMO is continuously monitoring the situation in the city.

As of 5 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) raised a red rainfall warning in Metro Manila, Cavite, and Bataan, indicating that heavy rainfall, flooding, and landslides can be expected.

Meanwhile, to stay updated on floods and other situations brought about by Typhoon Carina, the public can check the official Facebook page of the Manila Public Information Office.
