PMA exam set on August 28

FORT DEL PILAR, Baguio City, Philippines — Young Filipinos interested to join the military service can take the first step to realize their dreams and aspirations when they take the entrance examination of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011 in 37 testing centers nationwide.

From 35 testing centers last year, Capt. Lynette Agnes Flores, PMA public information officer, said the testing centers have increased to 37 with the addition of testing centers in Bontoc, Mountain Province and Tacorong City, Sultan Kudarat. Interested applicants could apply to take the PMA entrance examination online through www.pma.gov.ph. (Dexter A. See)

Show time for Bulacan PWDs

CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan — Hundreds of individuals, including disabled persons, joined the Provincial Government of Bulacan through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) in their cultural and variety show Monday morning at Hiyas ng Bulacan pavilion coinciding with the celebration of the 33rd annual celebration of the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week with the theme “Making the Right Real for Filipinos with Disabilities.”

The show, titled “Basta’t Bulakenyo, Kahit may K Ok,” featured the talents of persons with disabilities (PWDs) through singing, dancing and other talents. Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado lauded the activity. (Freddie C. Velez)

Pampanga eyes P2 garbage fee

SAN FERNANDOCITY — The Pampanga provincial executive is proposing a P2 garbage collection fee daily in every household in the province for the construction of a regional sanitary landfill to address waste woes. Gov. Lilia Pineda said P2 is an affordable amount to ensure that households segregate their garbage and thus help protect the environment.

Pineda said “the money collected from every household will be deposited with the barangay account and only the designated signatories will be allowed to withdraw such amount.” She also said the provincial government is allocating a yearly budget of P202 million for payment of tipping fee and haulers of garbage to Metro Clark Sewerage and Landfill Corporation in Barangay Kalangitan, Capas Tarlac. Pangasinan language

DAGUPAN CITY — Officials here have expressed concern that Pangasinan’s language may die if not given due importance. Mayor Benjie Lim said the Pangasinan language will be given a new breath of life through a radio program he conceived.

Dubbed “Pinablin Taoir,” which means “treasured heritage,” the radio program aims to revive the local language through discussions with guests and phone-in questions and suggestions from the listeners. (Lizle Basa Inigo)

BARAS, RIZAL — Policemen are looking forward to the realization of one of their dreams - to have a house and lot of their own. This developed as the Philippine National Police (PNP) allocated a community in Barangay Pinugay, in this town for the policemen’s settlement.

The PNP will share the same community in this town with members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). Rizal Police Provincial Office officials said 2,000 housing units are available for both the PNP and AFP personnel at House Ville 2 alone. (Nel B. Andrade)
