POEA warns vs cyber recruitment

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, Philippines (PIA) — The POEA office here is warning job applicants against dubious employers and agencies using the internet to recruit workers for work abroad.

POEA-Negros head, Carmen Nagum said they have gotten complaints about recruiters asking applicants for fees ranging from P50,000 to as much as P500,000 in return for overseas employment only for applicants to find that the promised work was non-existent.

“Applicants must check with POEA to see if the recruiter’s agency is licensed, and if the jobs they offer have a valid job order.''

PIA 6 campus news workshops

ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PIA) — The 2011 campus journalism seminar workshops organized by PIA 6 set July to September this year will be for incoming editors, writers and school publication advisers in both Western Visayas private and public schools and colleges.

The Iloilo City sessions set July 27-29 and August 6-8 will be for the college level while August 15-17 and August 24-26 sessions will be for high-school participants. Bacolod City sessions on September 6-8 will be for Negros Occidental high schools and those not able to make it in previous sessions.

House sets K-12 public hearing

MAASIN, Southern Leyte (PIA) — The Maasin City Schools Division will send delegates to a public hearing scheduled Wednesday, July 20, by the House Committee on Basic Education and Culture to discuss the Department of Education’s implementation of the K to 12 Basic Education program.

The hearing will be held at the Leyte Normal University Gymnasium, Tacloban City. Topics will include House resolution on the “ Propriety of Adopting a 12-Year Education Cycle in Elementary and High School (Basic Education),” by Rep. Marcelino R. Teodoro; and House Bill 2182 or “Prescribing a 12-Year Basic Education Curriculum for Public and Private School Children,” authored by Rep. Eulogio R. Magsaysay.

PRO 8 marks PCR month

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) — The Police Regional Office (PRO) 8 is celebrating its 16th Police-Community Relations this month with a tree planting activity along with officials of Brgy. Campetic, Palo, Leyte. PRO 8 Regional Director, PCSupt Arnold Rayala Revilla said some 100 fruit bearing trees will be planted inside the PRO camp by PRO 8 personnel together with Campetic residents.

The activity, said Revilla, is an opportune time to further foster and strengthen the relationship between police and the community and also serves as a way to soliciting community support and participation with the Philippine National Police programs and projects here.

Landbank renews 4Ps MOA

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) — Government-owned Landbank of the Philippines (LBP) has renewed its memorandum of agreement with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for the payout of conditional cash grants to Pantawid Pamilya program beneficiaries.

LBP First Vice President and Regional Manager Ruel Romarate, said the LBP is ready to serve the growing number of beneficiaries under the state-led poverty alleviation program which now numbers 145,000, with 80,000 more expected to be added next year in the region.
