Job fair in Cavite
Trece Martires City, Cavite, Philippines — The Provincial Public Employment Service Office (PESO) is holding a job fair in General Trias town on July 29, it was announced Tuesday. Dr. Eva R. Defiesta, PESO manager, said that the fair at Tahanang Yaman Homes Subdivision in Barangay Buenavista is open to applicants who wish to work in the country and abroad. The subdivision fair will open at 9 a.m. and end at 3 p.m.
Defiesta said that local and foreign companies will be offering various positions for applicants during the day. The PESO, Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE), Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) have been holding the fairs in the province. CITY OF MALOLOS — Bulacan Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado Tuesday encouraged all the department heads and assistant department heads of the Provincial Government of Bulacan to submit their nominations for outstanding local governance program for this year’s Galing Pook Awards. Memorandum Circular PA-2011-304 said the deadline for submission of nominees is July 29, 2011.
Submitted entries will be judged based on the following criteria: Positive Results-30 percent; Promotion of People’s Participation and Empowerment-30 percent; Innovation-15 percent; Transferability and Sustainability-15percent; Efficiency of Program Service Delivery-10percent. The Galing Pook Award is a pioneering program that recognizes and promotes innovations and excellence in local governance. (Freddie C. Velez)
Hazardous waste
DASMARIÑAS — Some 235 drums containing hazardous substance were rolled out of two vacant lots in separate barangays in this city for treatment and disposal at a waste treatment facility firm in neighboring Silang town.
Jose Elmer C. Bascos, chief of Cavite Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), said that the drums of industrial waste were brought to Cleanway Technology Inc. firm compound after samples were taken for examination just over the weekend. (Anthony Giron)
Blind musicians
ANTIPOLO CITY — A group of blind musicians in this city is starting to become known for their abilities not only in Rizal province but also in Metro Manila as well.
Members of the Antipolo Blind Musicians and Massage Therapists Association (ABMMATA) in San Isidro performed at a wedding reception for a young Manila-based couple residents last weekend. Newly wed couple Goldwin Garcia and Vina Vibandor Garcia of Manila said the blind musicians performed rondalla music during their wedding reception.
The blind musicians were the same group that performed as the “Singing Christmas Tree” last December in Antipolo. (Nel B. Andrade)
Zip line project gets support
MT. SAMAT, Pilar, Bataan — An expert mountain climber and environmentalist said Tuesday that the proposed zip line project on historic Mt. Samat here will draw more tourists here. Dennis B. Cuarto, organizer of the 1st Tarak Endurance Open competition, said the proposed zip line project will promote eco-tourism program.
Cuarto also offered to assist the operation of the project once it is finished. Mayor Charlie Pizarro said all is set for the construction and installation of a zip line atop of the Mt. Samat. The project has been approved by national government agencies, he said. (Mar T. Supnad)
