So much like father, like daughter – Gabby and KC Concepcion

MANILA, Philippines -- Gabby and I spent three weeks together in Europe. Four cities, four shows, many, many pictures.
It’s a good thing my husband Emil and Gabby’s wife Ginby followed on the third week or else, Gabby and I would be secretly married in Monaco! (Dream on, Giselle!)
Before our show in Monaco, Gab and I arrived in Nice, France and toured the city. While walking in the wonderful bay holding hands (Please don’t believe everything I write! Gab and I holding hands is just a figment of my fertile imagination. Gabby only holds my hand when we cross the street. He does not even hold my hand, he holds my elbow like he would an elderly crossing the street!)
Anyway, back to walking along the bay, the rosy-cheeked actor suddenly said, “This place brings me back memories of my 10 days with KC in the States. We spent ten days together and we went to Sausalito, San Francisco, Santa Cruz beach boardwalk and the Golden Gate Bridge. Those were the best ten days of my life. One day for every year we did not see other. She was ten years old when I left. When she turned twenty, I knew in my gut that she would call that day. That day when I woke up, I knew something great was going to happen to me. When my car phone rang, I looked at the number calling, it was an unlisted number. But my father’s instinct knew it was her,” Gabby was narrating so excitedly as if it happened only a day ago.
The phone call went something like this:
KC: Hello? Can I please speak to Mr. Gabby Concepcion?
Gabby: Baby, it’s me!
KC: Uhhm... hello? Hello? Can I please talk to Mr. Gabby Concepcion?
Gabby: Baby, I know this is you! This is your father.
“My heart was pounding even if the young lady on the other line did not introduce herself yet. It was a father’s instinct,” Gabby recounted.
I asked for some pictures of their 10-day tour. Gabby said that all the pics were with KC. I only had one encounter with the young actress so I couldn’t ask for the pics. But, I must say that it was an OMG experience I had with KC.
My OMG experience with KC
I hosted a corporate event for PureGold and I interviewed KC Concepcion who was endorsing the shampoo that she uses. I smelled her hair and it did smell good and I told the audience so.
The problem was, she smelled my hair back. It was a problem for me because I put virgin coconut oil (VCO) on my hair everyday to prevent it from frizzing.
VCO is the only product that my hair accepts without hair fall. So, people who smell my hair either say, “Did you have a massage?” or “Nagpahilot ka ba?”
When KC smelled my hair, I told myself, “OMG! What is she going to say on the microphone?” That my hair did smell like that of her Lola’s.
Indeed, an OMG experience! And she said......
“Your hair smells nice as well!” KC said with sincere eyes. Baffled, I took her word for it while scratching my head.
Similar encounter with the father
Truly I can say, “Like father, like daughter.” For three weeks, I never saw Gabby for breakfast in the hotel buffet area. I think he’s an early riser.
I would usually go down 30 minutes before they close the breakfast buffet at 10 a.m. since I have to take a bath and wear my make-up.
On one day, I woke up 10 minutes before the breakfast buffet closing. So, I just ran down with morning breath and my morning glory altogether. I thought that my peers won’t see me since they are all early risers.
Well, I thought wrong! Lo and behold, I see Gabby Concepcion with his hair all wet and combed up, all dressed up and ready to go. He greeted me good morning and said, “In fairness, for someone who hasn’t taken a bath, you smell good.”
Truly the fruit is not so far apart from the tree. It’s either the two (Gabby and KC) went to the same school of diplomacy or they just both suffer from anosmia, or the lack of a sense of smell!
