MANILA, Philippines — The importance of corporate social responsibility (CSR) is increasing in a world strongly influenced by corporate trends and decisions. CSR refers to the business principle of ethical practices undertaken not just to comply with laws and regulations that are good for business but also to offset any negative social impact produced by the company with policies to protect consumers, employees, communities, stakeholders, and the environment.

Some measure CSR success using the bottom-line measurements of profits and losses while others view it through the opinions of their employees and customers. However it is viewed, corporate social responsibility stands for doing the right thing and behaving responsibly.

Building a reputation as a responsible business sets one apart. Companies often favor suppliers who demonstrate responsible policies. Many consumers are aware of the potential for long-range harm from unethical business practices and will refuse to purchase the products or services that employ such practices.

In the Philippines, corporate social responsibility has evolved through the years and is ingrained in the culture of many businesses. The League of Corporate Foundations is holding the 10th Corporate Social Responsibility Expo in Pasay City on July 20-July 21, 2011.

An association of more than 70 corporations and corporate foundations that support and promote the CSR practices of its members, the League of Corporate Foundations has played a crucial role in raising public consciousness on the importance of participating in the activities that benefit not just the environment but also other individual and business beneficiaries.

We congratulate the League of Corporate Foundations headed by its Chairman Edgardo C. Amistad, and President Cecile L. Alcantara, other Officers and Members, on the occasion of its 10th Corporate Social Responsibility Expo 2011. We wish them all the best and success in all their endeavors. Mabuhay!
